Belvedere Marittimo is one of the most picturesque locations on the Riviera dei Cedri, located along Calabria's Tyrrhenian coast. The ancient village is perched on a hill overlooking the sea and retains its medieval charm, featuring narrow alleys, arches, churches, and noble palaces. Notable sites include the Aragonese Castle, the Capuchin Fathers' Convent—where Saint Daniele Fasanella, a Franciscan martyr, once lived—and the Church of the Rosary, recognized for its striking bell tower. Strolling through the town, one can feel an authentic atmosphere infused with the aromas of local cuisine and views of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The seaside area, known as Marina di Belvedere, comes alive especially in the summer, with beach establishments, bars, restaurants, and a promenade perfect for sunset walks. The beaches alternate between sandy stretches and rugged cliffs, offering crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
A short distance away is Diamante, the "city of murals," renowned for its chili pepper and international festival, and Cirella, with its ancient ruins and open-air theater that hosts summer performances. In about three-quarters of an hour, you can reach Maratea, the "Pearl of the Tyrrhenian," featuring a marina and the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer overlooking the coast.
Heading inland, you will find the mountains of the Pollino National Park, which provide an ideal backdrop for hiking, trekking, and nature experiences. For those who enjoy thermal baths, the Terme Luigiane in Guardia Piemontese, known for the healing properties of its sulfur waters, are just a few kilometers from Belvedere.
The Riviera dei Cedri is also a cultural and culinary journey: the cedar is the emblem of this region and is used in desserts, liqueurs, and traditional dishes. Alongside it, fresh seafood, homemade pasta, and extra virgin olive oil reveal a rich and authentic cuisine.
This area offers a perfect blend of sea, history, nature, and traditions, capable of providing diverse experiences for those who choose to explore it.
