Costalevata is situated in an exceptionally advantageous spot for exploring the Reggiano Apennines, blending scenic beauty, historical landmarks, and culinary traditions. At an elevation of around 700 meters and with an open location, it offers expansive views in multiple directions, showcasing some of the most iconic peaks in the region.
On clear days, the gaze can extend from Monte Cimone to Monte Cusna, passing by Monte Ventasso and the Pietra di Bismantova, reaching all the way to the ridges of the Parma Apennines. When visibility is especially good, beyond the Po Valley, the outlines of the northwestern Alps and the Verona Prealps may also be visible.
Just 1.4 km away lies the Sarzano Castle, an ancient fortress that was part of the defensive system of the Matildic Lands. Its close proximity allows for a leisurely walk to reach it, immersing oneself in a landscape where forests, meadows, and historical traces coexist even today.
The area also offers opportunities to continue exploring key sites connected to Matilda of Canossa. Canossa Castle is about 10 km away, Rossena Castle approximately 11.5 km, and Carpineti is 14 km distant. Further east, Baiso completes a historical route linking fortresses, villages, and viewpoints along ancient Apennine pathways.
Hiking enthusiasts can choose from trails of varying difficulty, routes through woods, and paths crossing the Matildic hills. One of the most famous destinations is the Pietra di Bismantova, reachable in around twenty minutes by car. This large rock formation, also mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy, offers hiking trails, climbing walls, and particularly striking panoramic spots.
The territory is also suitable for cycling and e-bike outings. Nearby, electric bikes can be rented to explore secondary roads, dirt tracks, and routes along the ridges. Among the most interesting areas is the Val Tassobbio, characterized by forests, small rural settlements, and landscapes that remain largely unspoiled by urban development.
The stay experience can be enhanced by visits and tastings at local cheese dairies and vinegar producers. Food and wine tours provide an intimate look at the production of mountain Parmigiano Reggiano and Traditional Balsamic Vinegar, allowing visitors to connect with artisanal processes deeply rooted in local culture.
Although set in a natural and secluded environment, the B&B is well connected to main transport routes. Reggio Emilia and the A1 motorway exit are about 28 km away, while the Mediopadana AV train station is 35 km distant. For guests arriving by train, a shuttle service is available upon request.
The location also makes it possible to organize excursions to more distant destinations. By crossing the Apennine passes or using the A15 motorway, one can reach the Gulf of Poets and Versilia in about one hour and forty-five minutes, combining days spent among mountains, art cities, historic villages, and coastal towns of Liguria and Tuscany.
