The Frignano Mountains provide a scenic backdrop to Casa Benassi, a renovated historic residence in Riolunato. Guests can choose between rooms with en-suite bathrooms, TVs and Wi-Fi, and apartments with fully equipped kitchens. Rooms include breakfast, while breakfast is optional for apartment stays.

The garden features a heated infinity pool with panoramic views, a waterfall, hydro-massage jets and a gently bubbling shallow area. The outdoor pool is currently closed and is expected to reopen in summer 2027. When it is open, the bar serves lunches, snacks and aperitifs. Pool access is included with direct bookings, subject to the property’s terms.

In September and October, guests can book the Jacuzzi and infrared sauna in advance, along with a herbal-tea corner, for an extra €10 per person per day. The Finnish sauna opens in November, and an aperitif can be served in the whirlpool on request. Snowshoes are available to rent in winter, and e-bikes in summer, making it easy to explore the surrounding area.

Free private parking is available, while electric-vehicle charging is subject to a fee. E-invoices can be provided on request. The property is non-smoking and does not accept pets.

Riolunato retains the feel of a traditional Apennine village, set beneath Mount Cimone in the Frignano area of Modena. Its scenery of forests and ridgelines is dotted with small hamlets such as Castello, Groppo and Serpiano, making it easy to combine nature walks with visits to mountain communities.

In the village centre, stop by the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore, home to a crucifix by Iorio Vivarelli, and Casa Ferrari, whose vaulted passageway opens onto the intimate Piazza del Trebbo. Vallona Park, with its play equipment, benches and picnic tables, is a pleasant spot for a family break.

Le Polle is one of the gateways to the Cimone ski area. In warmer months, Lake Polle and nearby trails are ideal for walks and mountain biking. Winter activities depend on snow conditions and whether the lifts are operating, so check the latest updates, routes and equipment requirements before setting off.

Local culture is also reflected in pastoral traditions, the Ricotta Festival and the songs of the Maggio delle Ragazze. Check the current calendar for event dates. A visit to Sestola or Abetone can round out a trip exploring the landscapes and villages of the Apennines.
