Terzo di Tolmezzo is a peaceful village set within the beautiful natural landscape of Carnia, located just three kilometers from the center of Tolmezzo, the historical and cultural capital of the area. The name “Terzo” dates back to Roman times and is directly linked to the ancient road that connected Julium Carnicum (modern-day Zuglio) with the major settlements of Noricum, reflecting a rich history of trade and exchange. Today, the village maintains a calm and authentic atmosphere, perfect for those seeking a getaway from the hectic pace of life.
Its location is ideal for exploring the mountainous region of Friuli, thanks to its proximity to Mount Zoncolan, a popular destination for skiing and cycling, and Lake Cavazzo, also known as the “lake of the three municipalities,” where visitors can enjoy canoeing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the shores. History enthusiasts will discover a variety of museums, Roman archaeological sites, ancient churches, and mountain chapels, often adorned with frescoes and wooden sculptures characteristic of Friulian tradition, all within a short distance.
The area is traversed by a convenient cycling path that connects the mountainous scenery of Sutrio, known for its wood artisans, with the valleys leading to the Friulian plain. Getting around is easy due to the presence of a bus stop and key road junctions. The surrounding environment, featuring forests, meadows, and ancient villages, invites visitors to hike, take refreshing walks, and engage in cultural discoveries, offering a perfect balance between nature and tradition.
