B&B - Casale di Mary is situated in the countryside of Contigliano, an area especially appealing to those wishing to explore the Valle Santa Reatina and its scenery, combining nature, villages, Franciscan sites, and hiking opportunities. Its location offers a peaceful rural environment while still providing easy access to the main towns in the region.
One of the closest destinations is Greccio, one of the most renowned villages in the Rieti area and a place deeply connected to Saint Francis. The famous Sanctuary of Greccio, perched spectacularly on the mountain, is only a few kilometers from the B&B and is a key stop within the Valle Santa. Both the village and sanctuary can be included in tours dedicated to other Franciscan landmarks around Rieti, surrounded by lush landscapes, trails, and small historic towns.
Rieti itself is also easily reachable. Its historic center preserves churches, palaces, squares, and relics from various periods, making it enjoyable to explore by walking through its oldest streets. The city is also a great starting point for discovering the Sabina region and the mountains surrounding the Rieti plain.
The farmhouse’s location is also convenient for exploring areas towards Umbria. Lake Piediluco, encircled by hills and quaint settlements, offers a lovely natural setting and is about 15 km away. Continuing towards Terni, visitors can see the Marmore Waterfall, one of central Italy’s most famous natural attractions, while Terni itself lies roughly 20 km from the property.
Despite the tranquil nature of the area, traveling is very convenient. The Rieti-Terni highway interchange is approximately 800 meters from the B&B, enabling quick travel to key local destinations. About one kilometer away is Greccio’s train station, on the line connecting Terni, Rieti, L’Aquila, and Sulmona; nearby is also the terminal for local public transportation.
This region is ideal for those who enjoy a slow-paced holiday filled with walks, hikes, and visits to small villages. The countryside, Apennine hills, and Franciscan heritage sites define a landscape still closely linked to nature and local history. Thanks to its position between Rieti and Terni, the B&B serves as a convenient base for exploring both northeastern Lazio and some of southern Umbria’s most charming locations.
