The agriturismo, converted from an ancient sharecropping estate dating back to the 1600s, spans a 10-hectare property of cultivated fields and woodlands, arranged in terraces supported by centuries-old dry stone walls, a testament to the resilience and skill of the ancestors. Nestled in nature, amidst chestnut forests and rolling hills, this establishment provides a peaceful retreat just a short distance from the coast and its attractions.

The rooms, decorated with original wooden beams and terracotta floors, blend rustic charm with modern comforts such as private bathrooms, central heating, and Wi-Fi access. Some rooms feature a wood stove, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. During the warmer months, breakfast is served outdoors on a terrace that offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

The restaurant, which seats 16 guests, offers traditional local dishes such as cured meats from San Benedetto, gnocchi with pesto, stuffed mussels, and focaccia with lard, all prepared with fresh, authentic ingredients. The property also produces and sells its own olive oil, vegetables, fresh fruit, and preserves.

For nature enthusiasts, Trail No. 1 of the Cinque Terre begins directly on the premises, providing a unique opportunity to explore the area. The agriturismo is pet-friendly and has secure parking, making it an ideal retreat for a vacation focused on nature, tradition, and relaxation.

The name "Locanda del Papa" comes from the nickname of the "dei Papa" family, passed down through generations. According to an intriguing legend, a Pope traveling to Genoa along the ancient Via Aurelia stopped with his entourage at a natural spring located on the family's land to water his horses. From that day forward, the family adopted the nickname, which is now reflected in the name of the inn.

The Agriturismo, located in the heart of the ancient Podesteria of Carpena, is situated on the hills overlooking the Cinque Terre. Just a short distance from the Foce pass, it provides a panoramic view that encompasses La Spezia and the enchanting Gulf of Poets, with Lerici and Portovenere in the background.

Only 4 km from the train station, the agriturismo serves as the perfect starting point for exploring the Cinque Terre: in just 8 minutes by train, you can reach Riomaggiore and the famous Via dell'Amore. The building, an old sharecropping farm from the 1600s, was fully renovated in 2005 while preserving the historical charm of the structure. Surrounded by ten hectares of land and woods, the terraced fields with ancient dry stone walls tell the story and tradition of this unique area.
