Quiliano is located in the immediate inland area between Savona and Vado Ligure, nestled among gentle hills and lush forests that frame an authentic landscape rich in history. Its territory stretches between the sea and the mountains, offering picturesque views and a serene atmosphere, all while being just a few minutes away from major transport routes and the beaches of the Riviera di Ponente.
The origins of the municipality trace back to the Roman era when it was known as Aquilianum. Even today, the Quazzola valley holds significant remnants of that distant past: along the ancient path of the Via Julia Augusta, which connected Rome to Gaul, one can admire the remains of Roman bridges dating back to the 1st and 2nd centuries, highlighting the strategic and commercial importance of the area during the imperial period.
Over the centuries, Quiliano has witnessed the influence of various dominations. Starting in the 10th century, it became part of the Aleramici march, a vast feudal entity in Northern Italy, and later, in 1091, it came under the possessions of Bonifacio del Vasto, a prominent figure in Ligurian and Piedmontese history. This intertwining of historical events has left an indelible mark on the territory, still visible today in the small villages, ancient churches, and trails that wind through valleys and hills.
Today, Quiliano retains the charm of its history and natural beauty, providing visitors with a perfect balance of culture, landscape, and tradition. Strolling along its paths means immersing oneself in a timeless atmosphere, where the greenery of the Mediterranean scrub alternates with panoramic views of the sea and the Savona coast, easily reachable in just a few minutes. It is an ideal area for those who love nature, history, and tranquility, without sacrificing the convenience of having everything within reach.
