  • Romantic atmosphere
GateToTheWild is a retreat nestled within the forests of the Ligurian hinterland, located in Coreglia Ligure, designed for those wishing to escape the busy pace of the coast and spend a few days closely connected with nature. The accommodation offers a variety of options, ranging from private or shared rooms to an Indian tipi and a distinctive hippie van, allowing guests to choose between a traditional stay or a much more unique experience.

The atmosphere is casual, welcoming, and focused on sharing. Surrounded by forest trails, starry skies, and the sounds of local wildlife, visitors can relax, meet travelers from different countries, or, for those who want to stay longer, work remotely thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity and participate in gardening activities or volunteer programs.

Paolo and Elisa are the hosts who created GateToTheWild inspired by their passion for travel, nature, and meeting people from all over the world. They welcome guests with a warm and friendly spirit, sharing a place they consider home first and foremost, helping to foster an environment where it’s easy to socialize while still respecting personal space and time.

Breakfast is not included with the stay but can be requested directly on-site. Guests can also join organized dinners with a home restaurant style, experienced as a gathering moment among guests and volunteers around one large table. This is an opportunity to eat together, chat, and exchange stories and experiences in a simple and authentic setting.

The property is situated in a hilly area surrounded by vegetation, with pleasant walking routes through forests and open views of the coast. Nearby excursions lead to small bodies of water, shelters, and spiritual places like the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro, offering various paths for those who love hiking in nature.

Despite its secluded location, GateToTheWild allows guests to plan day trips to some of the most popular spots on the Ligurian Riviera. Rapallo, Camogli, Sestri Levante, Lavagna, Portofino, and the Cinque Terre can be visited within a day, alternating the tranquility of the inland with the charm of seaside villages. Along the coast, numerous activities are available, including mountain biking, kayaking, surfing, diving, boat trips, paragliding, and whale watching.

GateToTheWild is accessible by car, motorcycle, or bicycle from Cicagna via regular roads; if coming from Rapallo, the last two kilometers are on a rougher path. Those without their own transportation can reach the Sanctuary of Montallegro by bus or cable car and then continue on foot for about an hour along a scenic forest trail, which offers beautiful sea views in certain sections.

Area Collina

GateToTheWild is located inland from the Tigullio area, within the territory of Coreglia Ligure, set in a hilly landscape dominated by forests, ridges, and small rural settlements. This part of Liguria is quite different from the more famous coastal strip: here, the scenery retains a secluded and natural atmosphere, with trails crossing the vegetation and linking the Fontanabuona Valley to the hills overlooking the Gulf of Tigullio. Coreglia Ligure itself sits on the slopes of Monte Pegge, in an area historically crossed by routes connecting the inland to Rapallo.

The area is especially suitable for those who enjoy hiking. Around here, a network of walking paths extends toward the Coreglia Pass, Monte Pegge, the Crocetta Pass, and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro. Among these routes is also the path connecting Pian dei Ratti, Coreglia Ligure, and Montallegro, along with several trails continuing along the ridges of the Tigullio hinterland.

One of the most notable sites is the Sanctuary of Montallegro, perched on the heights behind Rapallo. From this location, there are expansive views of the sea, Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure, and the Portofino promontory. The sanctuary also serves as an important junction for numerous trails coming from both the coast and the inland.

Thanks to GateToTheWild’s unique position, visitors can alternate days completely immersed in nature with excursions to the Riviera. Rapallo is one of the main access points to the coast, from where it is possible to continue to Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino; moving eastward, you encounter Chiavari, Lavagna, and Sestri Levante, while with a longer trip you can also reach the villages of the Cinque Terre.

Those seeking a more active holiday will find numerous opportunities along the coast to engage in sports and outdoor activities, ranging from mountain biking and kayaking to boating, diving, surfing, paragliding, and whale watching. Heading back inland, the landscape quickly changes to tranquil woods and less frequented paths, creating an appealing contrast between sea and mountain.

Even the journey to the accommodation can become part of the experience. By car, GateToTheWild is reachable from Cicagna via regular roads; coming from Rapallo, the final stretch includes about two kilometers of rougher road. For those traveling without a car, it is possible to reach Montallegro from Rapallo using the distinctive cable car and then continue on foot through the forest. Montallegro is indeed connected to Coreglia by hiking trails that pass through a green and sparsely urbanized environment.

This area is therefore particularly suitable for those who want to explore two complementary sides of Liguria: the well-known coastal villages overlooking the sea and the quieter inland, characterized by woods, ancient mule tracks, small villages, and sudden panoramic views of the Riviera.
