Nestled in the genuine tranquility of Valsassina, Cascina Cornella is a place that early visitors described as “out of this world,” a phrase that has endured over time and perfectly captures the essence of this small retreat amidst woods and mountains. Here, nature takes center stage, and the pace of life follows the simple and harmonious rhythm of rural living, providing an opportunity to escape the daily hustle and rediscover the joy of peace.

The farmhouse, an old barn renovated between 2013 and 2014 after years of neglect, is now the result of a long and careful restoration process carried out with passion by Marialuisa and her family. For more than a decade, this place has continued to evolve and grow, welcoming guests eager for an authentic stay. Starting in 2026, Cascina Cornella will focus exclusively on hospitality and agricultural activities, two aspects that coexist harmoniously within the same space.

The B&B offers a comfortable ground-floor room with a private entrance and a spacious bathroom equipped with a shower. From the room, guests can enjoy views of the surrounding forest and the impressive outline of the Grigne mountains, providing a changing panorama with the seasons that enhances the stay with a constant sense of tranquility. The absence of a television encourages guests to immerse themselves in the sounds of nature, from the rustling of trees to the silence of the mountains.

Breakfast is served on the upper floor, a simple and genuine moment designed to start the day calmly. The table features local products and homemade preparations: fresh bread, pastries, artisanal jams, honey, yogurt, and hot beverages. Mornings are accompanied by light filtering through the mountains and the scent of the forest, creating a relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

During their stay, guests are likely to encounter Marialuisa engaged in her small farm activities, tending to the vegetable garden, chickens, herbs, fruit trees, and more recently, bees, which represent a new and exciting challenge. Amidst her daily work, there is always time for a chat over a cup of coffee, perhaps with a moka pot ready on the stove for when guests arrive.

A great enthusiast of history and local traditions, Marialuisa enjoys sharing curiosities about Valsassina and suggesting routes and walks in the area. The trails that start from the farmhouse allow exploration of varied landscapes, ranging from leisurely walks to hikes up the peaks of Grigna or Pizzo dei Tre Signori, in a region rich in nature and history.

The farmhouse derives its name from a location that once served as a passage for shepherds leading their livestock from Valsassina to Valtaleggio and Bergamasca. Even today, this place retains the charm of a territory deeply connected to its traditions, where woods, pastures, and ancient farmhouses create a harmonious landscape.

Not far away are the wonders of Lake Como, accessible in about fifteen kilometers. Famous villages like Varenna and Bellagio, along with lesser-known gems like Corenno Plinio or Brienno, offer picturesque scenery amid water, history, and romantic views.

Staying at Cascina Cornella means experiencing nature, silence, and authenticity in a corner of Valsassina where time seems to flow more slowly, and each day can begin peacefully, over a delightful breakfast and the backdrop of the mountains.
Rooms and Rates
Breakfast at Cascina Cornella is a simple and authentic experience, designed to start the day in a relaxed manner, in harmony with the tranquil pace of Valsassina. It is served on the upper floor of the farmhouse, in a cozy setting where the morning light enhances the awakening and invites guests to savor the local flavors at a leisurely pace.

The table features genuine products and preparations that celebrate local traditions and seasonal ingredients. Homemade pastries, fresh bread, artisanal jams, honey, yogurt, and warm beverages create a breakfast that is both hearty and balanced, providing the right energy to tackle the day ahead.

Thus, the breakfast time becomes a small ritual of tranquility, enjoyed amidst the scent of the forest and the silence of the mountains, before embarking on a nature walk, a hike along the trails of Valsassina, or a visit to the charming villages near Lake Como. Upon request, it is possible to notify any allergies or food intolerances at the time of reservation.

Hey, I'm Marialuisa

Marialuisa warmly welcomes guests to Cascina Cornella with the same passion she has devoted to nurturing this beautiful location in the heart of Valsassina for over a decade. The farmhouse, an old barn restored after a lengthy period of neglect, has evolved into a life project that combines hospitality with agricultural activities. Her daily life revolves around the garden, chickens, aromatic herbs, fruit trees, and bees—an exciting new endeavor she has embraced with enthusiasm. This direct connection to the land fosters an authentic and homely atmosphere, allowing guests to experience the simple rhythm of rural life. A great enthusiast of local history and traditions, Marialuisa enjoys sharing stories and interesting facts about Valsassina, recommending walks, routes, and lesser-known spots in the area. There’s always time for a chat over a cup of coffee, often with a moka pot simmering on the stove to warmly welcome newcomers to this peaceful retreat “away from the world.”

Area Campagna

Cascina Cornella is situated in the Cremeno area, in the heart of Valsassina, a Lombard alpine valley that still maintains a strong connection to nature, traditions, and mountain life. The landscape here features dense forests, expansive pastures, and small ancient villages, creating an authentic and harmonious environment where time seems to flow more slowly.

The majestic profile of the Grigne mountains dominates the skyline, defining the scenery with its imposing peaks, often referred to as the Little Lombard Dolomites. This mountain range is a favored destination for outdoor enthusiasts and offers numerous opportunities for exploration. The trails that wind through the valley lead to breathtaking views, alpine huts, and natural paths that allow visitors to discover a variety of environments, from shady woods to rocky ridges that provide open vistas of the Alps and Lake Como.

In winter, Valsassina becomes a hub for snow sports, thanks to the nearby ski resorts of Piani di Bobbio and Piani di Artavaggio, which are easily accessible and enjoyed by both skiers and those who prefer snowshoeing or simply taking in the snowy landscape. As spring arrives, the area transforms into an ideal destination for hikers, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts, with a dense network of trails traversing meadows, alpine pastures, and forests.

The valley also has a rich history tied to agriculture and cheese production. For centuries, Valsassina has been recognized as one of the regions known for Lombard cheeses, where ancient traditions of livestock farming and milk processing continue to shape the identity of the area. Alongside its culinary offerings, the landscape is dotted with historic districts, small churches, and rural architecture that tell the story of a bygone era and the deep relationship between local communities and the mountains.

Not far away lies one of the most captivating sights in northern Italy: Lake Como, which can be reached in about fifteen kilometers. Its shores are home to elegant, historically rich towns such as Varenna and Lecco, where visitors can stroll through charming alleys, enjoy scenic lakeside paths, and take in romantic views. In addition to the more well-known locations, there are also smaller, less frequented villages that retain authentic atmospheres and offer spectacular views of the water and surrounding mountains.

Due to its location, Cascina Cornella serves as an ideal starting point for discovering a wide variety of landscapes and experiences: from alpine hikes to walks through historic villages, from days by the lake to the culinary traditions of the valley. It is a region rich in nature, culture, and tranquility, where each season presents new opportunities to experience the mountains and their surroundings in an authentic way.
