Nacalino Agriturismo is situated in the countryside of Modica, in an especially convenient location for exploring southeastern Sicily, nestled among baroque towns, rural landscapes, and coastal spots of the Iblea area. The peacefulness of the countryside allows guests to stay away from busy areas while still having easy access to some of the most captivating destinations in the region.
Both Modica and Scicli, included in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Val di Noto, can be reached within about ten minutes by car. Modica enchants visitors with its historic center that climbs the hillside, its dramatic staircases, baroque churches, and its long-standing chocolate-making tradition. Scicli, on the other hand, features a charming and intimate old town characterized by noble palaces, churches, and views made famous by the TV series Inspector Montalbano.
Continuing to explore the area, Ragusa Ibla is approximately a half-hour away, offering a maze of narrow streets, baroque architecture, the Cathedral of San Giorgio, and the Iblei Gardens. Around forty minutes from here lies Noto, one of the finest examples of Sicilian baroque, renowned for its spectacular Cathedral and the elegant palaces lining the historic center.
The location also makes it easy to balance cultural outings with seaside days. Marina di Modica, Sampieri, and Pozzallo are all conveniently reachable by car and provide sandy beaches and long stretches of coastline. Traveling along the shore, you can also discover small fishing villages and some of the most picturesque coastal landscapes in the Ragusa area.
The surrounding countryside itself forms an important part of the experience. The Iblean landscape is marked by dry stone walls, carob trees, olive groves, and ancient stone farmhouses, all connected by secondary roads that allow for a leisurely exploration of the inland areas. This territory is also particularly interesting from a culinary perspective, with a tradition that includes cheeses, ricotta, olive oil, legumes, baked goods, and typical Modican specialties.
Throughout the year, Modica and nearby towns host religious festivals, cultural events, and celebrations tied to local traditions. Especially remarkable are the Easter festivities of the Madonna Vasa Vasa and the feasts dedicated to Saint George and Saint Peter. Thanks to its central position relative to the main attractions of the area, Nacalino serves as a convenient base from which to plan different itineraries each day, easily transitioning from baroque art to the countryside, and from the sea to the flavors of southeastern Sicily.
