In the heart of the Tuscan countryside, nestled between the Chianti hills and historic villages, the Antico Podere Il Bugnolo invites guests to experience an authentic farmhouse from 1892, once used as a barn, wine cellar, and drying area for the production of Vinsanto. The establishment still retains the rustic charm of its origins, featuring porous marine stone walls, handmade tile roofs, oak beams, and beautiful vaults that reflect the simplicity and beauty of a bygone era.

Since 1970, Simone’s family has chosen to return to a lifestyle in harmony with the land by purchasing the property from a fallen noble. After years dedicated to winemaking, the building was renovated in 2001 with great respect for its history and transformed into a welcoming home for travelers. Every space is lovingly maintained, as this has also been their home for over forty years.

Staying at Bugnolo means becoming part of a Tuscan family's daily life, sharing habits, stories, and authentic rural culture. There is no reception, but a discreet and constant presence: Simone and his family live in the same house and are always available for suggestions and assistance.

The location is perfect for exploring Tuscany: San Gimignano is just a few minutes away, while Siena and Florence are less than an hour’s drive. The Chianti hills, Volterra, Certaldo, Monteriggioni, and Colle di Val d’Elsa are all easily accessible. From the nearby Poggibonsi station, guests can conveniently travel by public transport.

Guests can enjoy a swimming pool set amidst greenery, a garden for relaxation, and the opportunity to arrange tastings, cooking classes, or bike excursions. Each stay thus becomes a unique experience filled with authenticity, nature, and warmth.

Area Campagna

The area surrounding the Ancient Farm Il Bugnolo is a blend of breathtaking landscapes, art, and traditions. We are in the vibrant heart of Tuscany, nestled between the gentle hills of Chianti and the charming medieval villages that dot the province of Siena, in a region that maintains the unchanged allure of rural life from bygone days.

Just a short drive away is San Gimignano, famous for its towers that rise above the landscape like a stone version of ancient Manhattan. Nearby, you will find Certaldo, the birthplace of Boccaccio, and Colle di Val d’Elsa, known for its crystal and medieval urban layout. Volterra, with its Etruscan history and stone historic center, can be reached in about half an hour.

This location is also ideal for those looking to explore artistic cities such as Siena and Florence, which are easily accessible by public transport due to the proximity of the Poggibonsi train station. The landscape surrounding the farm is quintessentially Tuscan, featuring rows of vineyards, olive groves, stone farmhouses, white roads, and cypress trees that create iconic silhouettes.

The region invites you to engage in experiences connected to nature and local traditions: paths along the Via Francigena, wine tastings in Chianti wineries, visits to castles, parish churches, and abbeys, cycling tours along scenic routes, and relaxing days in the surrounding countryside. About an hour away, the breathtaking views of the Val d’Orcia await, with Montalcino, Montepulciano, and Pienza, or you can head to the Tuscan coast for a trip to the beaches of Pisa and Livorno.

Here, every corner beckons for exploration at a leisurely pace, where culture, gastronomy, and beauty exist in perfect harmony.
