The B&B Castagna Dulcis is the result of a careful and sustainable renovation of a farmhouse dating back to the 1600s, nestled in lush nature at the foot of Monte Amiata, near Abbadia San Salvatore. The establishment features two double rooms and a family suite, each offering unique and refined spaces, decorated with traditional materials and great attention to detail, honoring the typical Tuscan architecture. Every room opens to an outdoor area for relaxation, providing direct access to the garden, a true natural balcony overlooking the picturesque Val di Paglia and the Rocca di Radicofani.

Breakfast is served in the veranda, which offers a delightful view of the valley and the historic village. The breakfast spread includes a variety of local sweet and savory products, along with coffee, tea, and fruit, accommodating the needs of those with dietary restrictions. The property is pet-friendly, allowing small animals free of charge while respecting the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The commitment to sustainability is evident in the use of green energy generated by photovoltaic panels. The B&B also offers internal parking for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, included in the price of the stay.

This location is perfect for those looking to explore the natural and cultural wonders of Monte Amiata and Val d’Orcia, with opportunities to book guided excursions or rent e-bikes to discover the surrounding trails. Its position allows for easy access to the center of Abbadia San Salvatore, the Monastery, the Mining Museum, the summit of Amiata, as well as the charming villages of Vivo d’Orcia, Radicofani, and the natural hot springs of Bagni San Filippo.

Lauro, the owner, has lived in the farmhouse with his family since the 1990s and has personally overseen the restoration, transforming it into a welcoming family-run home. Staying at B&B Castagna Dulcis provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in a different side of Tuscany, away from the usual tourist paths, characterized by authentic landscapes, fresh air, and a warm, genuine atmosphere.

Hey, I'm Lauro

My name is Lauro, and I have been living with my family in this farmhouse since the 1990s. During the lockdown, we decided to restore part of the property that had been neglected for years, turning it into a family-run bed and breakfast. I personally oversaw the renovation, passionately attending to every detail and creating many of the interior furnishings, all while honoring the Tuscan traditions. Our aim is to showcase the authentic beauty of Monte Amiata and the Val d'Orcia to our guests, providing a warm welcome and a genuine experience in a setting rich in history and nature. We are here to recommend itineraries, activities, and restaurants to make your stay unforgettable.

Area Campagna

The B&B Castagna Dulcis is situated in a prime location at the foothills of Mount Amiata, an ancient volcano that majestically oversees the Tuscan landscape. This area, abundant in untouched nature, provides stunning views and a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year. The surroundings are perfect for long walks and trekking routes through forests, chestnut groves, and meadows, as well as mountain biking or e-biking to explore hidden trails.

Near Abbadia San Salvatore, the town is easily accessible by both car and foot, and it retains a historical charm with its Monastery and Mining Museum, which are reminders of a past connected to mining and local culture. The summit of Mount Amiata, at 1,738 meters, offers spectacular vistas and features a monumental cross standing 22 meters tall, serving as a destination for thrilling hikes.

Val di Paglia unfolds before guests as a vast natural landscape, with the Rocca di Radicofani towering over the valley, providing picturesque views and the chance to immerse oneself in authentically charming medieval villages. Radicofani, with its impressive fortress dating back to before the year 1000, is a must-visit for those who appreciate history and ancient architecture.

Not far away are Bagni San Filippo, famous for the free thermal springs at Fosso Bianco, where visitors can relax in natural hot waters. The surrounding area is also known for its local products, including mushrooms and chestnuts, which infuse autumn with warm hues and genuine flavors.

This part of Tuscany, away from the usual tourist paths, offers an authentic experience filled with nature, culture, and traditions, perfect for those looking to discover a more secret and captivating side of the region.
