The area where Agriturismo Il Friscello is located is one of the most authentic and surprising regions of Tuscany, away from the more touristy paths but capable of offering breathtaking views, ancient villages, wild nature, and significant historical landmarks. We are in the Upper Valdarno, nestled among the gentle hills that rise towards Pratomagno, a lesser-known but enchanting mountain dotted with stone villages, dense forests, pastures, and scenic trails perfect for hiking or biking.
Just 5 km away lies Loro Ciuffenna, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, perched on a cliff overlooking the stream that shares its name. Strolling through its historic center immerses you in a medieval atmosphere filled with cobbled streets, stone houses, ancient mills, and truly picturesque views of the river. A short distance from the village, you will find the Pieve di Gropina, a masterpiece of Romanesque art and a national monument, which holds mysterious symbols carved in stone.
Surrounding this area is the landscape of the Balze del Valdarno, unique geological formations in Italy known for their shape and ochre color that evokes lunar scenes. Leonardo da Vinci was so captivated by them that he included them as a backdrop in the famous "Mona Lisa." Another must-see route is the Strada dei Setteponti, which connects Florence to Arezzo, passing through hills, churches, olive groves, and some of the most harmonious landscapes in the region.
This part of Tuscany is perfect for those seeking tranquility, direct contact with nature, and the chance to discover an artistic and cultural heritage that remains intact. Its strategic location also allows for easy visits to major cities like Florence, Arezzo, and Siena, all reachable in under an hour, making Il Friscello an ideal starting point for explorations that combine nature, art, and history.
