Neri’s Cottage is located in Poggi del Sasso, within the municipality of Cinigiano, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. This hilly area is marked by vineyards, olive groves, woodlands, and small villages. The landscape preserves all the most recognizable features of the Tuscan countryside, including ancient stone farmhouses, roads winding through the hills, rows of cypress trees, and centuries-old olive trees, while maintaining the wild and authentic character typical of the Maremma region.
The location is particularly convenient for exploring southern Tuscany, situated between the Val d’Orcia, Monte Amiata, and the Maremma coastline. Within about a 30-minute drive, you can reach Montalcino, famous worldwide for its Brunello wine, as well as some of the most picturesque towns in the Val d’Orcia such as Pienza, Bagno Vignoni, and Monticchiello. Similar distances will take you to Monte Amiata, known for its forests and nature trails, and to Saturnia, renowned for its thermal springs.
The Cinigiano area is also rich in agricultural and wine-making traditions. The surrounding hills are home to farms, wineries, and small producers where visitors can discover local Maremma products and taste regional wines. The house enjoys a privileged position near several important Tuscan wine regions, including Montecucco DOCG, Morellino di Scansano DOCG, and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
For those wishing to visit the sea, the Tyrrhenian coast is about 50-60 km away. Popular spots include Castiglione della Pescaia and Principina a Mare, while further south lies the Argentario promontory. This allows for a balance between peaceful days in the hills and excursions to beaches and coastal towns.
Major Tuscan art cities are also accessible for day trips: Siena is approximately an hour’s drive away, and Florence can be reached in around an hour and a half. Additionally, the area is dotted with numerous historic villages, parish churches, castles, and small rural centers that offer a glimpse of a less crowded side of the region.
Just about 100 meters from the house is a charming shop, open even on Sundays, where you can buy groceries and local products. The area also boasts restaurants, trattorias, farms, and wineries, providing many opportunities to experience the local cuisine and produce.
This part of Tuscany is especially suited for those seeking peace and a close connection with nature. Here, the pace of life still follows that of the countryside, and the landscape encourages unhurried exploration through villages, vineyards, thermal baths, nature trails, and scenic roads. The location thus allows you to experience the most intimate and rural side of the Maremma without giving up the chance to visit some of Tuscany’s most renowned destinations.
