At the heart of the Monte Subasio Natural Park, situated at an altitude of 600 meters, Agriturismo Il Castello welcomes guests in a 12th-century farmhouse that has been restored with respect for its history and a focus on comfort. Surrounded by unspoiled scenery, it offers an authentic and tranquil retreat, away from the hustle and bustle, ideal for those seeking relaxation, nature walks, and cultural experiences. Assisi is just 4 km away, while Spello, Gubbio, Perugia, Todi, Spoleto, and Orvieto are easily accessible by car.

The accommodations are located in two separate buildings and are decorated in a rustic style featuring terracotta floors and wooden furniture, each equipped with a private bathroom, TV, Wi-Fi, fan, and heating. Some rooms are also accessible for individuals with disabilities. The property is environmentally conscious, utilizing a photovoltaic system with storage to provide sustainable hospitality. Services include a 24-hour reception, electric car charging stations, and family rooms.

The family-run establishment ensures a warm welcome and homemade cuisine, meticulously prepared by Mama Nunzia. Guests can enjoy traditional Umbrian dishes such as torta al testo, legume soups, fresh pasta, and local meats. Many ingredients come from the family’s organic farm, including olive oil, wine, vegetables, legumes, and truffles. Meals can be enjoyed in a dining area converted from ancient stables or outdoors on the panoramic terrace. Breakfast is also available, featuring homemade cakes and cookies, jams, yogurt, and hot beverages, along with takeaway baskets for lunch and dinner.

The history of the agriturismo is intertwined with that of the Fortini family, who have been present in the area for six generations. Today, the farm, converted to organic in 2005, includes olive groves, a flock of Suffolk sheep, and a shop where visitors can purchase local products. Since 2020, a teaching farm has also been active, offering workshops focused on discovering rural life, beekeeping, gardening, and traditional cooking. Activities designed for children and adults are conducted in schools or during daily visits to the agriturismo.

Agriturismo Il Castello is an authentic refuge where one can rediscover the value of time, nature, and simplicity, just minutes away from some of the most captivating art cities in Umbria.
Rooms and Rates
Breakfast at Agriturismo Il Castello is a special occasion, designed to start the day with authenticity and flavor. It is served in the outbuilding located in front of the farmhouse and features a generous selection of homemade products: freshly baked pastries, cookies, jams, yogurt, cereals, fruit juices, and hot beverages such as coffee, tea, and cappuccinos. Each morning, guests can enjoy authentic flavors that reflect family traditions and a commitment to high-quality ingredients, often sourced from the family’s organic farm.
Dining at Agriturismo Il Castello is an authentic experience deeply rooted in family tradition. Every dish is crafted from organic ingredients grown directly on the farm, including extra virgin olive oil, vegetables, legumes, wine, and truffles. The kitchen, passionately overseen by Mama Nunzia and the entire family, offers a menu that highlights the flavors of Umbria: bruschetta made with their homemade bread, fragrant torta al testo, fresh pasta such as strangozzi, tagliatelle, and baked pasta, warm soups of spelt, chickpeas, and lentils, as well as honest meats like wild boar, hare, and rabbit, all prepared with care and respect for tradition.

Meals are served in the charming atmosphere of the ground floor of the farmhouse, which was once a stable and cellar but is now a cozy and welcoming dining area. During pleasant weather, guests can enjoy their meals on the panoramic terrace overlooking the Monte Subasio Park. Breakfast, included or available for separate booking, is a special moment featuring homemade sweets and cookies, artisanal jams, yogurt, cereals, juices, coffee, tea, and cappuccinos served in the adjacent cottage. Guests can also request take-away picnics, perfect for savoring local products amidst the woods or nearby villages.

Half-board is available upon request, providing a worry-free stay, while the simple yet carefully prepared dishes genuinely reflect a land rich in flavors, traditions, and a spirit of togetherness. This dining experience combines taste and sustainability, harmonizing with the environment and the philosophy of the agriturismo.

The area where Agriturismo Il Castello is located is a remarkable corner of Umbria, nestled within the Monte Subasio Natural Park, surrounded by expanses of forests, ancient olive groves, and views that stretch across the central Apennines. Here, nature reveals itself in its most genuine form, with CAI-marked trails perfect for hiking, cycling, or horseback riding, amidst profound silence, earthy scents, and vistas that invite contemplation. At an elevation of 600 meters, the region enjoys a mild climate in summer and is enchanting throughout the year.

Despite its secluded and peaceful setting, the property is just a few kilometers from some of the most charming cities in Umbria. Assisi, located only 4 km away, is an essential stop for those who appreciate art, spirituality, and timeless beauty. Nearby are Spello, known for its flower-adorned streets, Perugia with its historic center and cultural events, Gubbio, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy, as well as Todi, Spoleto, and Orvieto, each with its unique character and millennia-old stories to tell.

This region is ideal for slow and mindful tourism, combining culture, nature, and gastronomy. Local products such as olive oil, wine, truffles, legumes, and cheeses reflect a vibrant agricultural tradition that can be found in the quaint villages, farmers' markets, local festivals, and bountiful tables. Monte Subasio, with its gentle heights and green pathways, represents the heart of this land: a place where time slows down and authenticity becomes a daily experience.
