Borgocapo is located on the rolling hills of Casalincontrada, set in a landscape shaped by ravines and positioned at the edge of the Maiella National Park. Its location allows for a blend of tourism that encompasses the sea, hills, and mountains, alongside the vibrant cultural scene of the area, providing visitors with an authentic experience in a region rich in traditions.

The house, one of 800 recorded by the Abruzzo Region, is constructed using the traditional technique known as "massone" or cob, which involves layering small, damp clumps of earth and straw. This building method, connected to sustainability and local history, is also the focus of Borgocapo’s workshop, which is dedicated to promoting earthen construction techniques. Guests can engage in hands-on activities and uncover ancient knowledge that has been passed down through generations.

The rooms of the house, referred to as “the great mother,” preserve the charm of the past with furnishings that belonged to previous generations and are dedicated to the women of the family. Outside, the courtyard offers relaxing moments in the shade, while the vegetable garden and olive grove provide the authentic flavors of the land.

Staying at Borgocapo allows guests to explore the park through organized routes or to create personalized paths using the specialized library on Abruzzo. Visitors can purchase local artisanal products and discover farms practicing biodynamic agriculture, connecting with the rural traditions of the area. Additionally, guests receive information on events, excursions, and ideal spots for outdoor activities such as jogging and scenic walks.

Hey, I'm Gianfranco

Borgocapo is the outcome of a project conceived by Gianfranco and Stefania, developed with the support of a group of friends who contributed both to the practical execution and to cultural and recreational activities. A key role was played by Flavio, alongside the “friends of Borgocapo”: Roeland Peeters, Herta Sturmann, Sjap Holst, and Lucia Secondo. Gianfranco Conti, an architect, has dedicated over forty years to the study of earthen constructions. A profound expert on the area, he is the mind and driving force behind Borgocapo. Stefania Giardinelli, also an architect, embraced her passion for earthen materials through Gianfranco, becoming the practical soul of the project. Flavio Giardinelli, a tireless worker and caretaker of the garden, has shaped Borgocapo with his own hands and continues to share his knowledge with those eager to learn.
