The Dimora dei Priori is located in Torino di Sangro, along the beautiful Costa dei Trabocchi, in one of the most picturesque and authentic stretches of the Abruzzo coastline. Here, the scenery alternates between secluded coves nestled within the Mediterranean scrub and long sandy beaches, kissed by a clear and vibrant sea, perfect for swimming, boating, snorkeling, and relaxing.
The name of the coast comes from the trabocchi, ancient wooden fishing machines suspended over the sea, which have now become symbols of the region and are often converted into scenic restaurants where visitors can enjoy fresh catch of the day. Strolling or cycling along the pedestrian and cycling path of the Via Verde dei Trabocchi is an unmissable experience; this route follows the old railway line and offers breathtaking views of the sea and nature.
Torino di Sangro, in addition to its beach and pine forest, is home to the Lecceta, a protected nature reserve that represents one of the few remaining intact coastal oak forests in Europe. Inside, protected animal species thrive, including the terrestrial tortoise, a symbol of this fragile and precious ecosystem.
The strategic location between the coast and the Majella mountains makes this area ideal for excursions inland. In under an hour, one can reach the national parks of Majella and Gran Sasso-Monti della Laga, where opportunities for trekking abound, alongside visits to hermitages, exploration of mountain villages, and the chance to breathe in fresh, invigorating air.
The surroundings also boast a rich artistic, religious, and cultural heritage: the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli in Casalbordino, the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere in Fossacesia, the historic center of Lanciano with its Eucharistic Miracle, the War Cemetery honoring fallen British soldiers, the city of Vasto with its scenic viewpoint, the Punta Penna lighthouse, and the Punta Aderci Nature Reserve. Further north, San Vito Chietino is home to the Eremo Dannunziano, the summer refuge of poet Gabriele D’Annunzio.
This land, suspended between sea and mountains, offers authentic emotions in every season, with its nature, flavors, and atmospheres capable of leaving a lasting impression on all who visit.
