The area where Tenuta Le Crie is located is one of the most enchanting in Salento, just a short distance from Otranto, a city rich in centuries of history, art, and tradition. Otranto is famous for its historical center enclosed within ancient walls, the Aragonese castle overlooking the sea, and the Cathedral, which features a unique and celebrated mosaic floor. The sea here boasts some of the clearest waters in Italy, with beaches that alternate between soft, light sands and wild cliffs, kissed by turquoise and emerald waters.
A few kilometers from the estate lie other gems of the region: to the north, you can easily reach Lecce, the capital of Apulian Baroque, known for its churches and buildings carved from local limestone; to the west, you’ll find sprawling olive groves surrounding the elegant and vibrant town of Maglie, perfect for a stroll through its historic shops and cafés. Further south, Gallipoli offers a joyful and carefree atmosphere, with its old town perched by the sea, a lively summer nightlife, and a culinary tradition rich in fresh fish and bold flavors.
This region is also ideal for those who enjoy active tourism and unspoiled nature: there are cycling routes, walks along dry-stone walls, and excursions along the coastline and into nature reserves, such as the Alimini Lakes, or within the protected areas of the Otranto-Leuca Park and the Tricase Forest. The small inland villages, like Specchia, Presicce, and Corigliano d’Otranto, still preserve the authentic spirit of rural Apulia, with their lively squares hosting local festivals and farmhouses nestled in the tranquil olive groves.
During the summer, the area comes alive with cultural events, fairs, concerts, and historical reenactments that celebrate Salento’s identity through music, dance, and tradition. The hospitality of the local people, the aromas of food prepared according to traditional recipes, and the vibrant colors of the landscape at sunset make every stay a profound and unforgettable experience.
