In Montepastore, nestled among the woods of the Bolognese Apennines, Il Fico e l’Ortica welcomes its guests in a historic farmhouse dating back to 1703, which has now been converted into a vegetarian and vegan bed and breakfast and agriturismo. This family-run establishment is the result of a life choice and a conscious return to simplicity, where every daily action holds significance and every encounter becomes an opportunity for exchange and enrichment.

The rooms, located in a separate wing of the farmhouse, tell stories through reclaimed furniture, family heirlooms, and details rich in memory. The warm and authentic spaces blend the charm of the past with modern comforts, including available Wi-Fi and careful attention to the upkeep of the surroundings. Breakfast features cakes, cookies, fresh sourdough bread, and plant-based beverages, and is happy to accommodate guests' dietary needs if notified in advance.

At the heart of the establishment is the kitchen, offered in a restaurant reserved for guests and open only by reservation. Here, meals are shared around a communal table, where stories, smiles, and dishes made from garden and local ingredients are enjoyed, always in harmony with nature's rhythms. The vegetarian and vegan menu changes with the seasons and includes a complete dining experience with an appetizer, first course, second course, side dish, dessert, water, and coffee.

Great care is also given to four-legged friends. Dogs are welcome everywhere except in the kitchen area and can enjoy the freedom of open spaces, roam the fields, and participate in activities organized with qualified dog trainers. The presence of a fenced area and numerous events focused on the canine world make Il Fico e l’Ortica a special place for those traveling with their furry companions.

Amid serenity, genuine connections, and a heartfelt love for nature, staying here means taking the time to listen, observe, and reconnect with what truly matters.
Rooms and Rates
Breakfast at Il Fico e l’Ortica is a special occasion, designed to start the day with flavor and simplicity. Each morning, guests are greeted with a wide variety of homemade products: cakes and cookies, fresh sourdough bread baked in a wood-fired oven, artisanal jams, yogurt, cereals, milk, coffee, tea, barley, and plant-based beverages.

Vegan desserts and dishes are also available upon request. Everything is made with high-quality ingredients, often sourced from the garden or local producers, in line with seasonal availability. To ensure a pleasant experience for everyone, guests are encouraged to inform us in advance of any food allergies or intolerances they may have.
The restaurant Il Fico e l’Ortica is a natural extension of the warm hospitality that defines the entire establishment. Open exclusively by reservation, it provides an authentic culinary experience, featuring vegetarian and vegan dishes made with ingredients sourced from the farm and selected local producers.

The fixed, seasonal menu includes an appetizer, a first course, a main course with a side dish, dessert, water, and coffee, all for a price of 30 euros per person (excluding holidays or special events). Guests dine together at a communal table, creating a friendly atmosphere where the meal becomes an opportunity for sharing and conversation.

The cooking is homestyle, attentive to the rhythms of nature, and inspired by what the garden offers: handmade pasta, risottos, quiche, baked dishes, spoon desserts, and tarts are just a few of the daily changing offerings. Those with allergies or specific dietary needs are encouraged to inform in advance to allow for careful and personalized preparation.

Hey, I'm Beatrice

The Fico e l’Ortica is passionately run by Beatrice and Matteo, who live in the farmhouse along with their inseparable four-legged companions: Duke, Linda, and Jolie. After spending years in the city, they decided to change their lifestyle and create a project focused on hospitality, environmental respect, and the sharing of authentic experiences. Beatrice is also involved in dog training and actively participates in initiatives related to animal welfare and the relationship between people and dogs. Together, Beatrice and Matteo welcome each guest as a friend, with warmth and openness, turning every stay into an experience of familiarity and harmony.

Area Collina

Il Fico e l’Ortica is located in Montepastore, a quaint village nestled in the heart of the Bolognese Apennines, approximately 30 kilometers from Bologna. This area, still relatively untouched by mass tourism, serves as a genuine retreat for those seeking silence, nature, and a slower pace of life. The landscapes are characteristic of the Emilian countryside, featuring gentle hills, chestnut and oak forests, and trails that meander through meadows and ridges, where the gaze can wander over open horizons and clear skies.

The proximity to the Contrafforte Pliocenico Nature Reserve adds geological and scenic interest to the region, showcasing rocky outcrops, sandstone cliffs, and a remarkable biodiversity. There are numerous paths suitable for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, perfect for those who enjoy trekking or simply wish to take a refreshing walk in nature.

Sasso Marconi, located about 13 kilometers away, provides services and connections to the city and is also a cultural and historical center associated with the figure of Guglielmo Marconi. From here, it is easy to access the Suviana and Brasimone Lakes Regional Park and Corno alle Scale for those looking to explore higher and wilder mountainous environments.

Despite the tranquility of the area, Bologna is easily reachable for a day trip: with its vibrant cultural scene, arcades, squares, and museums, it strikes a perfect balance between urban life and rural charm.

Montepastore is the ideal place for those seeking authenticity and nature, far from the hustle and bustle yet close enough to not miss out on anything. Here, each season has its own rhythm, every day has a time to listen to, and each landscape invites you to slow down.
