San Polo is a small gem nestled in the rolling hills of the Reggio Emilia Apennines, a place that gracefully preserves the historical and landscape identity of an ancient land. This village, once known as "Cà de Grassi in San Polo," developed around the remnants of a chapel dedicated to San Pauli, on the foundations of which the current Town Hall now stands. Every corner carries the mark of the past: from the noble houses to the medieval towers, from the 18th-century rural buildings to the cobblestone paths, everything speaks the language of a living and cherished memory.
The local architecture is harmoniously integrated into the hilly landscape, serving as a rare example of the blend between nature and the built environment. Meadows alternate with woodlands, stone walls engage with grassy paths, and votive niches emerge like small treasures of folk art. One of the oldest towers overlooks the road that once connected the village to the castle of Viano, still retaining a dovecote and a fresco of the Virgin with Child and Saint Anthony, framed by the heraldic emblem of the patron.
The area is enveloped in deep silence, far from traffic and the hectic pace of cities, yet close enough to provide all the conveniences. Strolling here means getting lost among timeless glimpses, within the soft hues of the landscape and the indelible traces of those who have inhabited these places over the centuries. It is an ideal setting for those seeking tranquility, authenticity, and a genuine connection with history and nature.
