Hey, I'm Ilario

Hello, I'm Caterina. After earning my degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Parma, I decided to focus on managing our family's B&B. My love for art, acting, and interior design is evident in the care I took to create this welcoming space. I also enjoy baking cakes and have a special fondness for animals, especially horses. I consider myself a friendly and helpful person, though I tend to be a bit shy and reserved. I chose to pursue this venture to meet new people and ensure their stay is as enjoyable as possible. When I travel, I greatly appreciate the kindness of hosts, and I strive to provide the same experience for my guests. I have a deep attachment to this house, which my father skillfully and passionately renovated. He transformed this historic building into a cozy home, where every detail is designed to make guests feel at home. We are delighted to welcome you, share a few conversations, and treat you like friends as well as guests. I am Ilario Mussi, a retired surveyor and the owner of this sturdy house that I purchased in the 1990s and renovated myself. The B&B Palazzo Filagni was opened in 2011 by my daughter Caterina, who managed it for five years. Since then, our home has become a popular destination for those visiting Valtaro, providing an ideal stay for a short vacation. Ivana and I will be happy to welcome you and show you the unique features of this ancient place, as well as offer helpful tips on how to explore the surrounding area. We look forward to seeing you!

Area Campagna

The B&B Palazzo Filagni is situated in the heart of the enchanting hills of Val Taro, specifically in Filagni, a peaceful location within the municipality of Valmozzola, in the province of Parma. Surrounded by the lush greenery of fields and forests, the Palazzo stands majestically in front of Ghiare di Berceto, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, making it an ideal haven for those seeking tranquility and serenity.

This ancient fortified house dates back to the 12th century and has Lombard origins. Today, one can still appreciate its stone structure, with floors and roofs made from old oak beams, as well as the traditional sandstone roof covering. The name Filagni comes from the dialectal term “i filàgn,” which once referred to the many rows of grapevines in the area, serving as a testament to local traditions.

The history of the Palazzo is closely linked to the Pallavicino family, who owned it until the latter half of the 15th century. It later passed to the Farnese, the Dukes of Parma, and then to the Sforza Fogliani family from Piacenza, who retained it until 1874. It was then that the property was acquired by the Counts Pettenati of Casacca di Berceto. In the 1990s, surveyor Ilario Mussi bought the entire building and, through meticulous restoration work, returned it to its former glory, preserving its original features while adding modern comforts.

The Palazzo still retains unique historical elements, such as the ancient courtyard with a wood-fired oven, the cellars with vaulted ceilings, and the old granary, which has recently been converted into a studio apartment. From the property, one can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Taro River valley, a corner of unspoiled nature.

The B&B is strategically located just 2 km from the A15 motorway exit (Borgotaro), halfway between Parma and La Spezia, on the border between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. In just a few minutes, one can reach the medieval village of Berceto, rich in history, as well as Borgo Val di Taro, the capital of the valley. This makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the natural and historical wonders of the area.
