In the heart of the Friulian countryside, in Crauglio di San Vito al Torre, the B&B Borgo Palazzo Steffaneo welcomes its guests in a wing of the historic residence of the Steffaneo Roncato family. Built in the 17th century on land donated by the House of Austria, the palace is a valuable example of architecture inspired by Palladio and features frescoes, stuccoes, and period floors that narrate centuries of history, art, and tradition.

Today, part of the residence has been renovated and transformed into an elegant bed and breakfast, preserving the enchanting atmosphere of the place. The rooms, each unique, provide authentic and charming environments: from the noble suite adorned with paintings and period furnishings to the cozy accommodations in the village's rustic buildings, characterized by exposed stone and ancient bricks. Every space is carefully designed to offer modern comforts while respecting its historical identity.

Guests have access to a section of the villa's centuries-old park, enhanced by plants and Istrian stone features. Just a short walk away, one can find the “fabbrichetta,” a testament to industrial archaeology, and the former military hospital that was also visited by Gabriele d’Annunzio during World War I.

Breakfast is a special moment of hospitality, featuring sweets from the Austro-Hungarian tradition, products from the Valli del Natisone, local cured meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, and yogurt, with attention to dietary needs. Upon request, eggs prepared to order are also served.

The location is perfect for exploring Friuli: within half an hour, one can reach Aquileia, Palmanova, Cividale, the Collio, and the Italian-Slovenian Karst. The property is just ten minutes from the Palmanova highway exit, making it easily accessible while still immersed in the tranquility of the countryside.

Roberto, who was born and raised here, enthusiastically opens the doors of his home, eager to share a place that holds the memories of his family and the local area. Each stay thus becomes an opportunity for connection, exchange, and the discovery of an authentic and surprising Friuli.

Area Campagna

The area where the B&B Borgo Palazzo Steffaneo is located is an authentic corner of the Friulian plain, surrounded by a rural landscape of well-kept fields, rows of vines, and charming little villages. Crauglio di San Vito al Torre, home to the accommodation, is a quiet and intimate place, perfect for those seeking tranquility, history, and nature without straying too far from the main cultural centers of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Within a short drive, you can reach some of the region's most captivating destinations. Aquileia, renowned for its remarkable basilica and Roman ruins recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a journey into ancient history. Cividale del Friuli, also a UNESCO-listed Lombard city, enchants visitors with its Devil's Bridge and the valuable artifacts housed in its archaeological museum. Palmanova, with its flawless star-shaped layout, exemplifies a masterpiece of Renaissance military architecture, remarkable for its symmetry.

Nearby, the hills of Collio extend, known for their exquisite white wines and scenic landscapes dotted with castles, wineries, and traditional villages. From here, it’s easy to access the Karst region with its caves, rocky landscapes, and remnants of the Great War, reaching the border with Slovenia in an area where cultures intersect and blend.

Nature lovers can explore cycling routes and quiet country roads, perfect for discovering the area at a leisurely pace. The Torre and Isonzo rivers offer unexpected views, ideal for a stroll or a bike ride. Throughout the seasons, this region showcases diverse colors and atmospheres: the autumn mists, clear winter skies, spring blossoms, and the warm summer sun of Friuli.

The B&B's location, just a few minutes from the Palmanova highway exit, makes it a strategic base for exploring the region: Udine, Gorizia, Grado, and Trieste are easily accessible, as are the borders with Austria and Slovenia. It’s a place that encourages you to slow down, immerse yourself in the stories of the past, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
