Hey, I'm Giovanni, Maria

Gianni Abbate, a native of Naples and a professional actor since 1976, was a member of the Alfred Jarry Company, a historic group in the Italian avant-garde theater scene, participating in their productions until 1982. His career spans theater, film, television, and radio, collaborating with directors and actors such as Gregoretti, the Giuffrè brothers, Francesco Maselli, Liliana Cavani, Luca de Filippo, Marcello Mastroianni, Pupella Maggio, Vittorio Mezzogiorno, Roberto Benigni, and others. On the other hand, Maria Malleier was born in Lana, Bolzano. In the 1970s, she attended the Art Institute for ceramics in Bologna. Between 1980 and 1981, she traveled to the United States and Latin America. After returning to Europe, from 1982 to 1985, she studied at the Dore Jacobs School in Essen, Germany, where she graduated as a “Bewegungspädagogin” (Movement Sciences). In the following years, she took part in a theater and movement improvisation course with Rüdiger Fabry and taught therapeutic and creative gymnastics in Spain, Italy, and Germany. In 1986, Gianni and Maria established Teatro Null, and that same year, they opened an acting and body expression school in Volterra, with the support of the local municipality and the Province of Pisa, operating for about three years. It was here that Gianni began writing his first theatrical texts, staging them with the school's students. In 1989, one of his plays, “Vigilia di Natale,” received recognition from the I.D.I., and in 1990, he won the “Teatro di parola” competition organized by the Municipality of Genoa. Another piece, “Il Presidente,” placed second with a special mention at the “Drammaturgia in festival” in Naples in 1999. Maria continued to work both within Teatro Null and in external courses. In Volterra, they discovered their love for the countryside and in 1989 purchased the Porcino farm, which became the headquarters of Teatro Null, gradually creating a true artistic workshop.
