Sarzana is a city steeped in history and charm, featuring a historic center adorned with impressive fortifications and significant monuments. Notable sites include the Sarzanello Fortress and the Firmafede Fortress, also referred to as the Citadel. The artistic heritage is highlighted by the Church of Sant’Andrea, dating back to the 11th century, and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which houses the famous Wooden Christ. The Teatro Impavidi stands as another emblem of the city, hosting cultural events and theatrical performances.
During the warmer months, the beaches of Marinella di Sarzana and Lerici, located about 10 kilometers away, provide well-equipped beach facilities and free beaches with convenient parking. In just twenty minutes by train, one can reach Monterosso, the last of the Cinque Terre, known for its breathtaking views and crystal-clear sea.
Throughout the year, Sarzana comes alive with significant cultural events. One of the most anticipated is the Acoustic Guitar International Meeting, typically held between May 25 and 30 at the Firmafede Fortress. In August, the National Antique Fair and the “Soffitta in Strada” turn the historic center into a vibrant open-air market, enriched by numerous artistic and musical initiatives.
The B&B serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the natural and cultural wonders of the area. In a short time, one can visit Bocca di Magra, Monte Marcello, Tellaro, Lerici, San Terenzo, Portovenere, and the Cinque Terre. Heading inland, about a 40-minute drive will take you to Campocecina, beyond Fosdinovo, a charming medieval village offering stunning views of the Carrara marble quarries. Continuing towards the sea, you will reach Versilia, home to the elegant towns of Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta, known for its art, particularly the sculptures of Gigi Guadagnucci displayed at Villa La Rinchiostra in Massa.
Pontremoli is also easily accessible and worth a visit for its captivating historic center, the Museum of Stele Statues, and the Castles of Lunigiana, all set in an authentic and picturesque landscape.
