Various information
The Green Chalet is located in the Bitto Valley of Albaredo, an untouched and captivating mountainous area on the western side of Valtellina, within the Orobie Valtellinesi Park. This valley, still relatively undiscovered by mass tourism, is an ideal destination for those seeking authenticity, nature, and tradition.
Albaredo per San Marco, the municipality to which the valley belongs, is a small alpine village rich in history and deeply connected to pastoral culture. It is the birthplace of the famous historical Bitto cheese, one of Italy's finest mountain cheeses, produced only in the summer using ancient methods passed down through generations. In the surrounding area, visitors can explore the alpine pastures where traditional practices are still maintained, allowing them to experience the slow rhythms of the mountains and savor genuine flavors.
The valley is crisscrossed by scenic trails and historic mule tracks, perfect for trekking, nature excursions, and family walks. From spring to autumn, the landscape bursts with colors, featuring beech, chestnut, and conifer forests, flower-filled pastures, and views of the Orobie peaks. Among the most picturesque paths, the Bitto Trail, which connects Albaredo to Gerola, and the trails leading to high-altitude huts, such as Rifugio Alpe Piazza and Rifugio Trona Soliva, are particularly noteworthy.
Not far away is Morbegno, a historic town with a vibrant and well-preserved center, filled with shops, noble palaces, welcoming squares, and cultural events. Here, beloved traditional events take place, such as the Cantine di Morbegno, where the ancient cellars of the village open for tastings of local wines, and Gustosando, a food and wine festival that highlights typical Valtellinese products.
In about a 15-minute drive, you can also reach the northern shore of Lake Como, particularly the area of Colico, which is perfect for those wanting to alternate between mountains and water. This region boasts beaches, water sports, bike paths, and lakeside venues, offering a pleasant contrast to the alpine tranquility of the chalet.
In winter, the area becomes an ideal base for accessing the cross-country and ski touring slopes of Pescegallo or Valmalenco, both family-friendly yet also featuring more challenging routes for enthusiasts. The abundant snowfall and snow-covered landscapes turn the forests into fairy-tale settings, perfect for snowshoeing and winter hikes.
No matter the season chosen for a visit, the Bitto Valley and the Orobie Park area provide an immersive experience in nature, alpine culture, and an authentic way of life, where each step reconnects you with the slow and profound rhythm of the mountains.
