Nestled in the greenery of Valceresio, within the historic grounds of Villa Mamoli, L’Helleboro is a serene retreat that boasts breathtaking views stretching from the forests of Monte Orsa to the snow-capped peaks of Monviso. Just a few kilometers from the Swiss border, it provides a warm and genuine welcome, perfect for those looking to unwind in nature while enjoying the convenience of a strategic location.

Founded in 1965 by Spartaco Mamoli as a vacation home for his large family, L’Helleboro has preserved the convivial spirit of its beginnings. The tavern, featuring a slate fireplace, a wood-fired oven, and a large grill, still echoes the evenings spent enjoying barbecues and pizzas, while the common areas and outdoor spaces encourage guests to share moments of relaxation in an authentic atmosphere. Laura, the founders' daughter, is always there to greet guests with warmth and hospitality.

The establishment welcomes families, sports enthusiasts, and lovers of history and nature, offering comfortable rooms, Wi-Fi, breakfast included, and parking. Small pets are also welcome. Its proximity to significant attractions makes every stay an opportunity to discover the wonders of the region: the lakes of Lugano, Como, Maggiore, and Varese, the cities of Varese, Lugano, and Locarno, as well as cultural highlights like the Fossil Museum of Besano, the Butti Museum in Viggiù, Villa Panza, and the Monastery of Torba.

History enthusiasts can walk along the Cadorna Line, an ancient military route that winds through the woods with views of Lake Lugano, while sports lovers will find trails and bike paths suitable for all levels, reaching up to the alpine passes. Nearby attractions include Monte Generoso with its cogwheel railway, the FoxTown outlet in Mendrisio, and numerous natural sites such as Val Verzasca and Valle Maggia.

L’Helleboro is more than just a bed and breakfast; it is a family home where every detail is lovingly tended to, and each stay leaves the memory of an authentic experience surrounded by nature, culture, and hospitality.

Hey, I'm Lina Carla

The Helleboro was born from the desire to share a special place, built in 1965 by my father Spartaco Mamoli as a retreat for our large family. We have created unforgettable memories here, enjoying dinners by the fireplace, pizzas from the wood-fired oven, and days outdoors, surrounded by the tranquility of the woods. Although not all of us live in the house now, our connection to this place remains strong. My husband Pippo and I, along with our children and grandchildren, still see it as a gathering spot and a welcoming place. Our daughter Laura, who resides permanently in Viggiù, will always be there to warmly greet guests and will be delighted to guide you in exploring this serene corner.

Area Collina

The Helleboro is located in Viggiù, in the green heart of Valceresio, just a few kilometers from the Swiss border, in an area that blends nature, culture, and convenience. Nestled in a pre-Alpine forest, the establishment enjoys a quiet and scenic setting, with views extending to the Piedmont Alps and, on clearer days, the distinctive profile of Monviso. Despite its cozy and tranquil atmosphere, the location is perfect for exploring a region rich in natural, historical, and artistic attractions.

Just a short distance away, you'll find the Fossil Museum of Besano, home to unique specimens like the Saltriosaurus and the Besanosaurus, as well as the historic Cadorna Line, a military pathway from World War I that winds through the woods and offers spectacular views of Lake Lugano. The village of Viggiù itself is known for its stonemasonry tradition and houses the Butti Museum, dedicated to local sculptural art.

In less than half an hour by car, you can reach several lakes—Lugano, Varese, Como, and Maggiore—each with its own charm and opportunities for hiking, water sports, or leisurely strolls along the waterfront. Don’t miss Lake Varese, with the archaeological site of Isolino Virginia, the weekly market in Luino on Lake Maggiore, or the historic villas like Villa Panza in Varese and medieval monasteries such as Torba.

For hiking enthusiasts, there are trails leading on foot or by bike to Monte Orsa, Monte San Giorgio, or Monte Generoso, which can also be accessed by the scenic cog railway. Shopping lovers will find the famous FoxTown outlet in Mendrisio nearby, while those looking to explore further can easily reach the Ticino valleys like Val Verzasca and Valle Maggia, or the cities of Lugano, Locarno, and Bellinzona, known for its UNESCO World Heritage castles.

The area is well-connected, with Malpensa Airport about half an hour away by car, making it an ideal starting point to experience the diverse offerings of a border region between Italy and Switzerland.
