Nestled among the gentle hills of Val Graziosa, the Al Palazzaccio agriturismo welcomes guests to a farmhouse overlooking the valley of Calci, offering a stunning view of the Verruca Castle. The establishment consists of two buildings dating back to the 15th and 18th centuries, immersed in a rural landscape of olive groves, vineyards, terraced fields, and forests, where nature, history, and authenticity coexist.

The Ruschi Farm has been engaged in producing extra virgin olive oil since the 1700s, now organic and award-winning. Driven by a passion for the land, Cristiana, the current custodian of the family tradition, opened the agriturismo and a reservation-only restaurant that features dishes from Tuscan cuisine made with local ingredients, many of which are complemented by their own oil.

The accommodations are located in the farmhouse and include two apartments and a double room. The Riccio apartment comprises a well-equipped kitchen, a double bedroom, and a twin room, with the option for extra beds. The Volpe apartment, situated in the oldest part of the house, features a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen, and two bedrooms. The Tasso room is ideal for short stays and is equipped with a minibar, kettle, satellite TV, and a private bathroom.

The property offers numerous spaces for relaxation and leisure, including a summer-opening swimming pool, a garden with a gazebo, barbecue facilities, a ping-pong table, and spacious lawns where donkeys, sheep, and chickens roam. Breakfast, which can also be served in the garden during the warm season, includes homemade products, jams, and syrups from the farm.

Guests can take part in guided tastings of organic olive oil and visit the farm to learn about its history and production processes. Experiential activities are also offered, such as horseback riding or donkey trekking, guided walks, climbing on Monte Pisano, kayaking, paragliding, or hot air ballooning, sailing tours in the Cetacean Sanctuary, and visits to wineries in the Lucca and Pisa hills.

Calci is only 12 km from Pisa and 24 km from Lucca, well connected to the main Tuscan art cities and the beaches of the San Rossore Park. The town center, with shops, a supermarket, and a pharmacy, is just a few minutes' walk away. Cristiana, who lives on the property, is always available to provide advice and make the stay an authentic Tuscan experience.
Rooms and Rates
The breakfast offered at the agriturismo is inspired by tradition, featuring a lavish buffet that includes homemade pastries, cookies, croissants, cereals, toast, bread for toasting, yogurt, butter, fruit juices, jams, and syrups made on-site. Upon request, savory dishes are also available from the menu. The hot beverages include cappuccino, espresso, tea, milk, or macchiato coffee. During the pleasant season, breakfast is served outdoors in the garden, allowing guests to start their day surrounded by the tranquility of the countryside.
The restaurant at the agriturismo operates by reservation and offers traditional Tuscan dishes made with local and seasonal ingredients, many of which are sourced from the farm itself. Each dish is prepared using organic extra virgin olive oil produced on-site, enhancing the authentic flavors of the region. The menu, which changes regularly to reflect the different seasons, is sent in advance to external guests, allowing them to select their preferred dishes and notify the restaurant at least a day prior. The dining area accommodates up to twelve guests, ensuring an intimate and familial atmosphere designed to provide a genuine and personalized culinary experience.

Hey, I'm Cristiana

Cristiana Ruschi is the owner and has been personally managing the agriturismo and the family farm since 2006. With passion and commitment, she upholds a centuries-old tradition related to olive cultivation and the production of organic extra virgin olive oil. Her decision to open the agriturismo stems from a desire to share the beauty of the region, rural culture, and the authentic products of the area with travelers from around the globe. Present on-site, she warmly welcomes guests and offers personalized advice on itineraries, activities, and experiences to enjoy in the heart of Tuscany.

Area Campagna

Val Graziosa, the green heart of Tuscany, lies at the foot of the Monti Pisani, nestled among gentle slopes cultivated with olive groves and ancient villages that tell centuries of history. This valley, surrounding the town of Calci, derives its name from its harmonious shape and the natural richness that defines it, offering untouched, tranquil, and authentic landscapes. The mild climate and favorable exposure have made this area ideal for olive cultivation, as evidenced by the centuries-old dry stone terraces that still shape the scenery today.

Calci retains an ancient soul and a strong cultural identity, showcased by the majestic Monumental Certosa, one of Italy's most significant monasteries, which now houses the Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa, with collections ranging from mineralogy to paleontology. Strolling through the village, with its cobbled streets, quaint shops, and views of greenery, is a rejuvenating experience in itself.

The Monti Pisani surrounding the valley provide a dense network of trails suitable for hiking, horseback riding, or mountain biking, catering to both experienced hikers and those seeking simple walks in nature. From the ridges, spectacular views stretch all the way to the sea, passing through forests, medieval ruins, hermitages, and small sanctuaries hidden in the mountain's tranquility.

Adventurous experiences abound as well, including climbing the cliffs of Buti, paragliding excursions, or hot air balloon flights to admire the valley's beauty from above. Just a short distance away, you can also find the Terme di San Giuliano, perfect for moments of wellness and relaxation.

Thanks to its strategic location, Calci provides easy access to Tuscany's major art cities: Pisa is just 12 km away, Lucca 24 km, and it takes a little over an hour to reach Florence, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, or Livorno. In summer, visitors can alternate cultural excursions with a day at the beach, choosing from the natural shores of Marina di Vecchiano, Calafuria, or the lively Versilia coast.

Val Graziosa is truly authentic, diverse, quiet yet vibrant, offering travelers a different pace filled with simple, everyday beauty, immersed in a landscape that evokes emotions without artifice.
