In the heart of Lunigiana, nestled in a landscape of extraordinary beauty, lies Torrano, a village that looks towards the future while honoring its roots. This is where the Torrano Domani Community Cooperative was established in 2019, initiated by the ARCI "Culture and Solidarity" Circle, with the aim of revitalizing the town and restoring its social, cultural, and economic vitality.

The project, also supported by the POR FESR Toscana, aims to combat depopulation by providing essential services and new opportunities for those who choose to live or stay in Torrano. The cooperative is dedicated to promoting mountain organic agriculture, rediscovering traditional practices and sustainable techniques, and showcases the area through the Osteria della Memoria, a space where cuisine, identity, and conviviality come together. Here, the flavors of Lunigiana are shared and served in authentic dishes, prepared with locally sourced, zero-kilometer ingredients from small farms.

The hospitality offered is characterized by a slow and mindful lifestyle. The "friendly temporary residency" service invites guests to share the village's pace, experience its customs, and participate in cultural and community activities. The accommodations, harmoniously integrated into the urban fabric, are just a short walk from the communal areas and the cooperative’s dining hall, allowing guests to fully enjoy the tranquility and warmth that define Torrano.

The Ulivo apartment, located on the ground floor, is perfect for couples or small families. With a separate bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen, air conditioning, and internet access, it is especially favored by nature lovers seeking a cool and quiet place to stay. On the upper floor, the Castagno apartment features a private terrace overlooking the valley, designed for those in search of brightness and unforgettable views.

Just a few minutes' walk from the village, one can find the Stretti di Giaredo, a spectacular canyon carved by the Gordana river, surrounded by colorful rocky walls and rich biodiversity, making it an ideal destination for hikers and geology enthusiasts.

Torrano Domani is a community project, an invitation to discover an authentic territory where every gesture, every dish, and every path tells a story worth experiencing.

Area Collina

Torrano is a quaint hilltop village nestled in the unspoiled nature of Lunigiana, located in the far north of Tuscany, bordering Liguria and Emilia-Romagna. Positioned on a sunlit slope with panoramic views of the Apuan Alps, Torrano overlooks the narrow valley of the Gordana stream, which originates in the municipality of Zeri and flows into the Magra River near Pontremoli. The setting typifies the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, featuring dense chestnut forests, ancient paths, and a remarkably intact biodiversity.

The village retains the genuine atmosphere of mountain communities, characterized by stone houses, quiet alleys, dry-stone walls, and small courtyards where communal life still thrives. The pace is slow, dictated by the seasons and agricultural activities that remain a central part of the region's identity.

One of the most captivating places near Torrano is the Stretti di Giaredo, a natural canyon carved by the Gordana stream over centuries. Here, steep vertical rock walls encase the watercourse, creating a unique geological spectacle. The hues of jasper, limestone, and shale—ranging from red to green to black—guide visitors along a path between water and rock, which can be explored on foot during the warmer months. This site represents a significant natural heritage, perfect for hiking, geology enthusiasts, and nature photography.

Torrano's strategic location also makes it easy to explore Alta Lunigiana, with its medieval villages, Romanesque churches, castles, and historic roads. The area remains sparsely populated, which adds to its unique charm: a rare balance of nature, history, and tradition. It is an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility, authenticity, and a deep connection with the environment.

The hilly landscape, lush forests, clear watercourses, and scents of Mediterranean vegetation make Torrano and its surroundings a favored spot for those wishing to rejuvenate away from the more frequented tourist routes, embracing a simple, sustainable lifestyle deeply rooted in the region.
