The area where Agriturismo Montelovesco is located is one of the most picturesque in northern Umbria, characterized by an unspoiled hilly landscape where ancient forests, olive groves, and cultivated fields blend harmoniously, creating a natural mosaic of extraordinary beauty. We are situated at about 450 meters above sea level, in a tranquil and sparsely populated countryside, ideal for those seeking peace and a genuine connection with nature.
The surrounding territory is crisscrossed by trails and quiet secondary roads, perfect for hiking or cycling. Just a short walk from the agriturismo, a brief stroll leads to the small waterfalls of the Lanna stream, where the water has carved clear pools framed by wild vegetation and rocky walls. This still relatively unknown place is perfect for a refreshing stop, immersed in the sounds of the forest.
Montelovesco is also an area of significant natural interest: the biodiversity is remarkable, thanks to the variety of environments that host wild mammals such as deer, wild boars, foxes, porcupines, hares, and a rich birdlife, including raptors, woodpeckers, hoopoes, and swallows. The night sky, free from light pollution, is ideal for stargazing, while on early summer evenings, the garden comes alive with the glow of fireflies and the rhythmic songs of crickets and cicadas.
Culturally, the area holds important traces of its millennia-old history. Within the property are the remains of the “Castellaccio,” an ancient medieval fortification dating back to the 11th century, which tells of a strategic and fascinating past. Not far away, you can find the Abbey of San Bartolomeo, a splendid example of Umbrian Romanesque architecture, and the Hermitage of Santa Cecilia, a quiet and spiritual place nestled among the rocks.
From a logistical standpoint, the area is well-connected: just 3 km away is the Gubbio–Pian d’Assino road, which provides quick access to the E45, the main Umbrian highway. In less than half an hour, you can visit towns like Umbertide, Montone, and Pietralunga, while art cities such as Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia, and Città di Castello can easily be reached in a day. Orvieto, Arezzo, and Lake Trasimeno are also less than two hours away, making the agriturismo an excellent base for exploring all of central Italy.
This area, still authentic and untouched by mass tourism, represents a valuable balance between nature, culture, and rural traditions. It is a vibrant territory, where each season brings its own colors, flavors, and festivals, from local fairs to historical reenactments, allowing visitors to truly connect with the soul of Umbria.
