Lessinia is a plateau located among the Veronese Prealps, a region that surprises with its diverse landscapes and the authenticity of its traditions. Here, nature takes center stage, featuring forests, pastures, valleys, and rock formations that narrate a millennia-old story shaped by both geology and human presence.
The Lessinia Natural Park is home to unique sites like the Valley of the Sphinxes, with its majestic stone monoliths sculpted by the wind, as well as historic hamlets—small rural settlements that still preserve the typical stone architecture of the area. Along the easily accessible trails, suitable even for families, one can discover mountain huts, pastures, and breathtaking views stretching from the Dolomites to the Venetian plain.
In addition to its natural beauty, Lessinia boasts a rich cultural identity. The traditions of the Cimbri, ancient Germanic settlers, are still reflected in the local dialects, customs, and cuisine. Cheeses, cured meats, dishes made with wild herbs, and the iconic gnocco sbatù are all manifestations of a simple, land-based cuisine.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the area is perfect for hiking, nature walks, gathering herbs and mushrooms, as well as opportunities for photography and plein air painting. During the winter months, Malga San Giorgio serves as a hub for skiing and snow activities.
The Masenel hamlet, where Al Vecchio Baito is located, is the ideal starting point to experience all of this: a peaceful place, surrounded by nature, yet close to the main paths leading to Dosso Alto, Parparo Vecchio, San Francesco, and other villages that tell the story and life of these mountains.
