Sarmede is a charming village with a population of 3,000, located at the foot of the Prealps in Treviso province, within the area of Vittorio Veneto. The region includes the localities of Rugolo and Montaner and is just a few kilometers away from the beautiful Cansiglio forest, a place rich in history and nature, which once provided Venice with timber for shipbuilding.
Known as the "Land of Fairy Tales," Sarmede hosts the International Exhibition of Children's Illustration, "The Images of Fantasy," each year—an esteemed event that attracts artists and enthusiasts from around the globe. In autumn, on the second and third Sundays of October, the village comes alive with the Theatre Fairs, while during the summer months, the "Stepan Zav?el" Summer School organizes courses focused on the art of illustration.
The town hall of Sarmede houses works inspired by the fairy tale world, including paintings from the publication "Fairy Tale Places," published by the International Exhibition Foundation for Children's Illustration "Stepan Zav?el." The entrance of the municipal building and the district of Montaner are depicted in the works of artist Józef Wilko?, who has transformed the ceiling into a starry sky, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.
Sarmede is easily accessible by train from the Vittorio Veneto station, which is connected to Venice-Mestre via Conegliano. The nearest airport is in Venice, from where shuttle services are available to the train station. For those seeking more direct transportation, taxi services from Paolo can be booked in advance.
