The Euganean Hills are a distinctive area within the Veneto region, forming an archipelago of gently rising volcanic hills from the plain, which create enchanting landscapes and a timeless atmosphere. Here, nature, history, and culture coexist in perfect harmony, providing visitors with authentic and unforgettable experiences.
Established in 1989, the Euganean Hills Regional Park covers approximately 19,000 hectares and is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It hosts an extraordinary variety of environments: oak and chestnut forests, stretches of Mediterranean scrub, vineyards, and orchards interspersed with medieval villages and Venetian villas. With over 40 marked trails and a cycling loop that encircles the entire park, it is an ideal destination for hiking or biking amidst breathtaking views and glimpses of rare beauty.
The local gastronomy is one of the great treasures of this region. Numerous wineries and agritourisms welcome visitors to sample the wines of the Euganean Hills, known for their mineral notes, paired with local products such as extra virgin olive oil, honey, cured meats, and cheeses. The trattorias and taverns in the area serve traditional Venetian dishes in a convivial and authentic setting.
In addition to nature and delicious food, the region holds a significant artistic and cultural heritage. Abano and Montegrotto Terme are well-known across Europe for their therapeutic waters and muds, making them popular wellness centers. Castles, monasteries, and hermitages, such as the one on Mount Rua or the Abbey of Praglia, narrate the centuries-old history of this land, while picturesque villages like Arquà Petrarca, the hometown of the poet, provide untouched medieval atmospheres.
The central location of the Euganean Hills makes it an ideal starting point for visiting some of Italy's most beautiful cities. Padua, just 20 minutes away, is home to masterpieces like Giotto's Scrovegni Chapel and the Basilica of Saint Anthony. Vicenza, featuring the Palladian Basilica and Palladian Villas, is reachable in half an hour, while Venice and Verona are less than an hour away, allowing for day trips without sacrificing the tranquility of returning to the hills.
A stay in this area offers a perfect balance of nature, art, history, and flavors, all within a scenic context that has the power to rejuvenate both body and spirit.
