The Tenute D’Onghia is a historic farmhouse set in the Apulian countryside, now transformed into an organic agriturismo and educational farm. Surrounded by fifty hectares of orchards, the property captures the charm of rural tradition while blending it with modern hospitality, offering rooms and apartments designed to ensure comfort and tranquility in an authentic natural setting. The ancient architecture, internal courtyards, and centuries-old olive trees preserve the memory of the past, while the facilities provide guests with a rejuvenating stay.

The day begins with a rich and unique breakfast that pairs typical Apulian sweets with savory farmer's breakfast dishes, featuring Altamura bread, focaccia, local cheeses, and seasonal vegetables. Both children and adults can engage in experiences close to nature: walks in the woods, outdoor fitness trails, educational games, workshops, and moments dedicated to discovering farm animals. From March to October, the farmhouse also offers themed days with activities for children and picnics featuring genuine products to enjoy among the orchards and equipped areas.

The family-run management creates a warm and engaging atmosphere: Nicola, heir to the farming tradition, guides guests through the fields, sharing the history of the farmhouse and offering tastings of certified organic products, from freshly picked fruits to local wine. This experience becomes an immersion in Apulian roots, filled with authentic flavors, direct contact with the land, and a model of sustainability that looks towards the future while honoring the past.

The location of Tenute D’Onghia allows for easy exploration of some of the most enchanting destinations in the region. Gioia del Colle, with its Norman-Swabian castle commissioned by Frederick II and the National Archaeological Museum, is a must-visit. The city is renowned for its mozzarella and Primitivo DOC wine, while nearby attractions include Alberobello, Matera, Castellana Grotte, Putignano, Polignano a Mare, and Bari, offering a journey through culture, nature, and culinary excellence.
Rooms and Rates
Breakfast at Tenute D'Onghia is truly a journey through authentic flavors. Alongside traditional Apulian pastries such as tarts, donuts, croissants, and almond sweets, the menu also features a farmer's breakfast, abundant with savory specialties that once nourished field workers: Altamura bread, stone-baked focaccia, frisa with cherry tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil, fresh and aged cheeses, cured meats, ricotta, and small vegetable frittatas. It’s a hearty and wholesome spread that tells the story of the estate and allows you to start your day with energy and flavor.

Hey, I'm Nicola

Nicola and his family warmly welcome guests with the authenticity typical of Apulian farming traditions. With enthusiasm, he shares the story of the estate and leads visitors through the fields, orchards, and animal areas, making every stay a genuine and immersive experience. Area Campagna

Gioia del Colle is situated in the heart of the Murge region, at an altitude of 365 meters, in a prime location that is equidistant from both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. The landscape surrounding the town is characterized by lush nature and a fertile plateau, where vineyards and olive groves alternate with oak forests and Mediterranean scrub, offering views that change with the seasons.

The town is renowned for two culinary specialties: the Primitivo DOC wine, known for its bold and deep flavor, and the Gioia del Colle mozzarella, which is now recognized as DOP, stemming from a dairy tradition that dates back centuries. Strolling through the historic center, one can discover churches and buildings that narrate the area's history, with the Norman-Swabian Castle prominently overlooking the scene. Commissioned by Frederick II, it houses the National Archaeological Museum, featuring artifacts that attest to the civilizations that once inhabited the Murgian plateau.

Gioia del Colle's strategic position allows for quick access to some of the most captivating destinations in Puglia and Basilicata: Alberobello with its trulli, Matera and the UNESCO-listed Sassi, the Castellana caves, Putignano with its famous carnival, Polignano a Mare with its cliffs overlooking the sea, and Bari with its vibrant historic center. Surrounded by countryside, hills, and ancient villages, the area serves as an ideal crossroads for those looking to uncover the authentic spirit of Puglia.
