Cisternino, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is located in the heart of the Itria Valley, at an elevation of about 400 meters above sea level. This setting provides a pleasant climate even during the hottest summer days, thanks to the breeze that sweeps through the countryside dotted with ancient olive trees and dry stone walls. The historic center, characterized by its whitewashed houses, small churches, and flower-adorned balconies, features a complex maze of narrow streets that lead to charming views and panoramic terraces overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
Not far away, you can find other treasures of the Valley of Trulli, such as Martina Franca with its elegant baroque architecture, Locorotondo with its distinctive cummerse, Ceglie Messapica known for its renowned cuisine, Ostuni, the famous white city, and Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its unique trulli. The Castellana Caves, about a thirty-minute drive away, showcase one of the most captivating natural spectacles in Italy, while the Fasano Zoo Safari is a perfect destination for families.
In under twenty minutes, you can reach the coastline with the beaches of Torre Canne and its thermal spa, as well as sandy shores and more secluded coves along the high Salento. Nature enthusiasts can explore the valley by bike, traversing gentle hills and rural roads that wind through vineyards and orchards. The area is rich in farmhouses and wineries where you can sample extra virgin olive oil, local wines, and traditional dishes that narrate the agricultural history of the region.
Thanks to its central location, Cisternino also serves as an excellent starting point for excursions to Polignano a Mare, Bari, Matera, and Lecce, allowing visitors to discover a territory that blends art, history, and breathtaking landscapes.
