Just a few minutes from the center of Bologna, nestled among the gentle, rolling hills of the Bolognese countryside, lies Il Cavicchio, a charming agriturismo where nature, tranquility, and beauty come together to offer an authentic hospitality experience. Surrounded by a landscape of vineyards, clay ravines, woods, and fields cultivated using organic methods, this location is designed for those looking to escape the hectic pace of life and reconnect with harmony, slowness, and what truly matters.

The establishment features five rooms and two apartments, each thoughtfully decorated with personal style and natural materials, showcasing oak wood floors, artwork, books, and details that tell stories. Every space is equipped with modern comforts: private bathrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, television, adjustable heating and ventilation, and, in some units, air conditioning and a kitchenette. The eco-friendly wooden apartments provide spacious, bright areas ideal for those seeking more independence without sacrificing the tranquility of the countryside.

The heart of the hospitality experience is breakfast, served in the fireplace room during colder months or on the veranda under the wisteria in spring and summer. The abundant sweet and savory buffet includes homemade jams, cakes, naturally leavened bread, organic eggs, selected cheeses and cured meats, fresh fruit, and yogurt. All items are sourced from local producers or directly from the farm, honoring seasonal availability and quality. It is a moment of sharing and relaxation, where all guests gather at the same table, creating spontaneous opportunities for connection.

Outside, a charming pool surrounded by flowers and lawns invites relaxation during the warmer months. The water is sanitized using a gentle salt system, kind to the skin and eyes, providing a refreshing swim in perfect harmony with the environment. The garden features shaded corners for reading, resting, or simply watching the landscape shift with the hours and the seasons.

Il Cavicchio serves as an ideal starting point for hiking or biking excursions. Numerous trails wind through woods, vineyards, and hills, leading to areas of significant natural and historical interest, such as the Sabbiuno monument, the Gessi Park, or the Via degli Dei. The agriturismo is well-equipped to welcome trekking and cycling enthusiasts, offering bike rentals, maps, secure garages, and partnerships with support centers. Nearby, guests can also enjoy horseback riding, golf, tennis, archery, and many other sports activities.

Sustainability is a core value of the establishment. Il Cavicchio is certified by Legambiente: the energy used comes exclusively from renewable sources, the building is constructed with natural, highly insulating materials, and all products from the farm, from vegetables to herbs and wine, are grown according to organic farming principles. Notable among the offerings are the artisanal jams and the fruity, natural Sangiovese wine, perfect for savoring by the pool or in the garden, perhaps after a long hike.

Every detail reflects the care and passion of those who have chosen to live in harmony with nature and share it with visitors. Here, hospitality is genuine, characterized by sincere smiles, heartfelt advice, and respect for each guest’s time and space. Il Cavicchio is not just a place to stay but a memorable experience where time seems to regain its natural rhythm, and every moment embodies the essence of true simplicity.
Rooms and Rates
Breakfast at Agriturismo Il Cavicchio is much more than just a start to the day; it’s a moment to be savored in a serene and communal atmosphere, where every detail is designed to provide pleasure and authenticity. We offer a generous sweet and savory buffet, featuring fresh, genuine products that are local to the area, ensuring a delightful transition from sleep to the first steps of your day.

Our homemade jams, artisanal cakes, naturally leavened bread from Forno Calzolari, organic eggs from the hens at Azienda Agricola Ca’ de Cesari, carefully selected cured meats from Prosciuttificio Castagneto, and aged Parmigiano Reggiano all tell a story of a short and mindful supply chain through their flavors. We also offer yogurt, fresh and dried fruits, cereals, natural juices, coffee, tea, and the traditional Bolognese sweet, Pinza. For guests with specific dietary needs, we are happy to provide gluten-free options upon request.

During the colder months, breakfast is served in the spacious room with a fireplace, featuring large windows that overlook the garden, creating a warm and relaxing environment. In the summer, we invite you to the “Veranda dei Glicini,” surrounded by greenery, flowers, and morning scents, where the landscape enhances an experience that engages all the senses.

Breakfast is also a chance for guests to meet and connect, as everyone sits at the same table, fostering a sense of sharing and interaction, away from the daily hustle. For those staying in apartments with kitchens, breakfast service is not provided, but we are happy to deliver our products to them: wine, jams, and fresh fruits and vegetables when in season.

In every aspect, our breakfast is an invitation to slow down, savor, and feel part of something genuine.

Hey, I'm Chiara

Raised amidst the scents and silences of the Bolognese Apennines, I have always felt a deep connection to these hills. Nature serves as my refuge, inspiration, and sense of belonging. From this love, I chose to passionately dedicate myself to managing Agriturismo Il Cavicchio, a place I consider part of my story and strive every day to make welcoming, harmonious, and genuine. With a degree in Historical and Oriental Studies, I have an in-depth understanding of the area, not just in its landscapes but also in its cultural roots. I enjoy exploring trails, discovering new corners of the Apennines, traversing them on foot or by bicycle, and allowing myself to be guided by the aromas and flavors of its cuisine. Therefore, if you’re looking for advice on a scenic hike or a must-visit trattoria, I would be delighted to assist you. Curiosity is my compass, and passion is the driving force behind every decision I make. Welcoming guests, sharing experiences, listening, and storytelling makes each day unique and valuable. Alongside me is Federico, the historic soul of Cavicchio. Born by Lake Como to a Lombard father and a Neapolitan mother, he moved to these hills in 1996 and in 2003 launched this project, transforming a beautiful property into an agriturismo that now welcomes travelers from around the globe. Shy yet friendly, he deeply respects guests' privacy, but he never misses a chance for a chat with those eager to share ideas and stories. He loves to travel, read, listen to music, explore art and history, and has a genuine passion for plants, which he tends to with care and respect. We are also supported by Latifa and Said, two invaluable and tireless contributors. Latifa, with her kindness and feminine touch, takes care of the room cleaning with a dedication that goes well beyond mere work: she loves to say that she feels at home here, and her infectious smile brings warmth to every start of the day. Said is our silent yet brilliant jack-of-all-trades, capable of maintaining the spaces, the pool, and handling repairs, as well as creating functional and beautiful wooden items with his own hands. With his tireless energy and his motto, “Let’s keep moving forward,” he is the hidden yet essential pillar of this little world. Together, we strive to create a place that welcomes, inspires, and makes each guest feel part of something authentic.

Area Collina

The agriturismo is situated in a prime location, surrounded by the tranquility of the Bolognese hills yet just a short distance from Bologna's historic center, easily reachable in about fifteen minutes. This corner of the Emilia-Romagna countryside serves as a meeting point for nature, culture, and tradition, making it perfect for those looking to slow down and rejuvenate in an authentic and welcoming environment.

The hills surrounding the property present a diverse and enchanting landscape, featuring shady forests, lunar gullies, expanses of vineyards, cultivated fields, and ancient paths worn over time by farmers, travelers, and pilgrims. It’s an ideal setting for outdoor enthusiasts: from trekking along scenic routes to mountain biking, leisurely strolls through the fields, or more challenging hikes along the historic trails of the Apennines. The routes cater to all levels of fitness and unfold in an unspoiled natural setting, where unexpected views, centuries-old trees, and small wild animals are not uncommon.

Explorers can set off directly from the agriturismo to reach sites of significant natural and historical interest, such as the Sabbiuno monument, the Gessi Bolognesi and Calanchi dell’Abbadessa Park, the Flaminia Militare, and the Monte Sole Historical Park. More experienced hikers can take on multi-day trails like the Via degli Dei or the Via Mater Dei, which are rich in history, spirituality, and nature.

The area also offers plenty of options for sports enthusiasts: nearby, you will find riding stables, tennis courts, golf courses, archery ranges, a cricket field, and a network of cycling paths along the river, ideal for running or jogging. The agriturismo is bike-friendly and provides a well-equipped garage, bike rentals, and partnerships with specialized centers for assistance and spare parts.

Living in this area also means savoring its culinary culture, with rustic taverns, farmers' markets, and local producers. The Bolognese Hills are famous for the quality of their wines, cured meats, cheeses, and baked goods: a true paradise for food and wine lovers who wish to discover the most authentic flavors of Emilia-Romagna.

What makes this place even more special is the opportunity to alternate days in nature with cultural visits to the vibrant city of Bologna, a university town full of creativity, art, music, events, and history. In a short time, one can also reach other exceptional destinations in the region, such as Modena, Ferrara, Ravenna, or the towns of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

Staying here means harmonizing with a landscape that changes with the seasons, where time slows down and every experience—whether it’s a walk in the woods, an evening by the pool, a wine tasting, or a conversation with the hosts—gains depth and significance.
