In Trebiciano, a small karst village just a few minutes from Trieste, the B&B Le Casite welcomes guests in an authentic rural home that honors the original dimensions, materials, and geometries. Stone, wood, and terracotta tiles create essential and genuine spaces, featuring independent double rooms equipped with private bathrooms, designed to ensure privacy and tranquility. The central courtyard, sheltered by surrounding houses, provides shaded areas under a century-old linden tree and a serene atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Breakfast, always included, is prepared each morning using fresh, local products from small producers in the Trieste and Slovenian Karst. The bread, offered in various shapes and recipes each day, takes center stage, accompanied by local honey, homemade pastries and jams, yogurt, milk, and fruit juices. Packaged products are avoided, except for butter; everything adheres to the principles of short supply chains and respect for seasonality, animals, and the environment.

The hospitality reflects the character of the place: simple yet thoughtful, rooted in agricultural history and open to culture. In the breakfast room and common areas, carefully selected books, publications created by the owners, and materials that narrate the region's history can be found. Nearby, trails and routes start right from the village center, among dry stone walls, casite, and points of historical and cultural interest, offering accessible walks and authentic views without the need to move the car.

Le Casite is a place for those seeking a genuine experience, far from tourist clichés, where the essential becomes valuable, and every detail speaks of roots, respect, and hospitality.

When possible, there is also a selection of savory items.

Area Collina

Trebiciano – Trebce is a small karst village located on the ridge surrounding Trieste, just a few minutes’ drive from the city center, yet immersed in an authentic rural setting. It has a population of just over 800 residents, many of whom belong to the Slovene linguistic minority, and it has managed to maintain its architectural and cultural identity over time, avoiding excessive urban development and preserving its typical stone houses.

The village is ideally situated for exploring the trails and routes of the Karst, easily accessible on foot without the need for special equipment. Strolling through the quiet streets, one encounters the “casite,” dry stone shelters that narrate the history of past agricultural work, and uncovers more than 180 local place names, a testament to the community’s memory and efforts.

The heart of the village is the square in front of the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, built in 1864, which serves as a starting point for hikes and a place of remembrance, featuring a monument to the fallen of the Great War and a large karst rock dedicated to the victims of World War II. The area retains centuries-old traditions, such as that of women who, in the past, walked to Trieste carrying milk, vegetables, and clean laundry.

From the village, the view opens up to the typical landscapes of the Karst, with a mix of meadows, forests, and limestone rocks, where the border is crossed almost unnoticed, except for the greeting from a Slovene mobile operator. Here, nature intertwines with history and culture, providing an experience far from the more frequented tourist spots, yet rich in authenticity and deep connections to the land.
