Tuscia, also known as Viterbese, Upper Lazio, or Etruria, is a region rich in charm and history, still largely uncharted in its authenticity today. This untouched area reveals itself through gentle hills, dense forests, and volcanic lakes like Bolsena and Vico, extending towards the countryside of Maremma and the seas of Tarquinia and Montalto. This region is a guardian of a millennia-old past, where each village narrates tales of ancient civilizations and boasts an extraordinary environmental and cultural heritage.
Viterbo, the vibrant heart of Tuscia and the historic City of the Popes, showcases itself as a beautifully preserved medieval jewel. Narrow alleys and bright squares are lined with churches, fountains, and noble palaces, reflecting the allure of a bygone era. The city is also renowned for its thermal waters, known since Roman times, which flow warm and therapeutic near Bullicame and the Terme dei Papi, providing a wellness experience among monumental pools and natural springs.
The area offers endless opportunities for exploration. Civita di Bagnoregio, known as the "dying town," stands on a tuff spur accessible only by foot, astonishing visitors with its unique landscape. The Park of Monsters in Bomarzo surprises with its enigmatic sculptures set in nature, while the village of Torre Alfina is home to the enchanted Forest of Sasseto, resembling a scene from a fairy tale. Nearby, Caprarola captivates with Palazzo Farnese, one of the most impressive examples of Renaissance architecture, revealing the grandeur and details of one of Italy's most influential families.
The Natural Reserve of Lake Vico presents picturesque views amidst woods and serene waters, while the Botanical Garden of Tuscia invites leisurely strolls among rare plants, small lakes, and corners that replicate environments from around the world. In spring, the medieval district of San Pellegrino transforms into a burst of colors and scents during the "San Pellegrino in Fiore" festival, offering visitors a one-of-a-kind spectacle.
Tuscia is also a land of authentic flavors, where the peasant tradition is reflected in typical dishes such as legume soups, mushrooms, and chestnuts from the Cimini Mountains, hearty sauces that dress the “lombrichelli,” and traditional sweets, all paired with the fine wines of Montefiascone. Every corner of this territory evokes emotions and tells a story, providing a journey through nature, culture, and gastronomy that delights in every season.
