The Alta Langa, where the Cascina Boschetto Guest House is located, is one of the most genuine and less-traveled regions of Piedmont. Here, the landscape differs from that of the Langa Albese: the hills rise higher, the forests become denser, and the villages are smaller and quieter. This is a borderland between Piedmont and Liguria, where the scents of Mediterranean scrub blend with those of medicinal herbs and hazelnuts.
The village of Saliceto features a charming medieval historic center, complete with the castle of the Marquises of Carretto, 15th-century frescoes, and the Church of San Lorenzo, renowned for its symbolism. Surrounding it are small towns like Monesiglio, Prunetto, Gorzegno, and Bergolo, each offering picturesque views, ancient churches, and vibrant traditions. Cortemilia, known as the capital of the round hazelnut, provides culinary routes and an authentically flavored village.
In just a few kilometers, one can reach Murazzano, famous for its DOP cheese and the Safari Park, Bossolasco with its Rose Path, and Sale San Giovanni, which transforms into the "Provence of Piedmont" from late May to July due to its lavender fields and expanses of lemon balm and sage. From Mombarcaro, the highest point of the Langhe at nearly 900 meters above sea level, one can even see the sea on clear days.
This area is perfect for those who enjoy slow tourism: trails for walking, cycling, or e-biking wind through forests, vineyards, and blooming meadows, offering experiences in nature. Local wineries invite visitors to taste Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto, Moscato, and other fine wines, while nearby farms offer goat and sheep cheeses, yogurt, honey, and traditional products.
Saliceto’s strategic location also allows for quick access to the Ligurian coast, with beaches in Noli, Varigotti, Finale Ligure, and Bergeggi, or to the cities of Savona and Genoa, known for its famous aquarium and narrow streets. In winter, skiing enthusiasts can head to Prato Nevoso and Mondolè Ski.
Alta Langa is an authentic retreat, away from the crowds, where one can rediscover the natural rhythm of life, savor Piedmontese and Ligurian cuisine, and experience landscapes of extraordinary beauty.
