The area surrounding Podere di Maggio is one of the most enchanting and untamed regions in southern Tuscany. We are situated in the heart of the internal Maremma, at the foot of Mount Amiata, an ancient volcano that silently oversees a diverse and surprising landscape. Here, rolling hills alternate with dense forests, natural hot springs, historic stone villages, and valleys traversed by clear rivers like the Fiora, which flows right beneath the estate.
This territory is still relatively untouched by mass tourism, which helps it retain a rare authenticity. Nearby villages such as Santa Fiora, Arcidosso, and Castel del Piano reveal medieval stories through their cobblestone streets, tranquil squares, and castles overlooking lush greenery. A little further away, the tuff towns – Sorano, Sovana, and Pitigliano – appear to be carved directly from the rock, offering a journey back in time filled with Etruscan necropolises, Romanesque churches, and breathtaking vistas.
Nature is the star of the show: Mount Amiata provides trails for exploration on foot or by bike through beech forests, chestnut groves, and sources of pure water. In the winter, its snow-capped peaks offer opportunities for skiing in an intimate and family-friendly setting. In the summer, the cool climate makes hiking enjoyable, as well as relaxing by the river or in one of the many natural thermal pools in the area.
The hot springs are among the most appreciated treasures: Saturnia, Bagni San Filippo, and San Casciano dei Bagni are just a few of the locations where one can soak in warm and rejuvenating waters, often free and outdoors, set in extraordinary natural surroundings. About an hour's drive away, the Tyrrhenian coast awaits with wild beaches such as those in the Uccellina Park or the Argentario promontory.
The region also boasts a vibrant cultural dimension: from Daniele Spoerri's Contemporary Art Park, nestled in nature, to Niki de Saint Phalle's Tarot Garden and the Monster Park of Bomarzo, every excursion can become a meeting between art and landscape.
Guests at Podere di Maggio find themselves in the heart of a generous and varied territory, where nature, history, spirituality, and tradition harmoniously blend, providing an authentic and deeply Tuscan experience.
