San Quirico d'Orcia is located in one of the most picturesque and iconic regions of Tuscany: the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This village, likely of Etruscan origin, gracefully rests on the Sienese hills along the ancient route of the Via Francigena, which for centuries has been a pathway for pilgrims, travelers, and merchants heading to Rome. The atmosphere here feels like a pause in time, where stone, silence, and natural beauty coexist harmoniously.

As you stroll through the historic center, enclosed by ancient walls, you will encounter architectural treasures and views that speak of history and art. The Collegiate Church of Saints Quirico and Giulitta, with its Romanesque façade and carved portals, greets visitors at the entrance to the village. Further along, the Horti Leonini, one of the earliest examples of an Italian garden from the 16th century, provides a serene retreat among green geometries and Renaissance-style statues. Nearby, you can also find Palazzo Chigi, Palazzo Pretorio, and the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta, alongside the remnants of the ancient Hospital of the Scala, which highlight the strategic importance of the village throughout the centuries.

San Quirico is also a vibrant town that proudly preserves its traditions. Each year, on the third Sunday of June, the Festa del Barbarossa is celebrated, reenacting the historic meeting between Emperor Frederick I of Swabia and the papal legates. The village comes alive with flag-wavers, costumed participants, and archery competitions, reviving the medieval spirit that has permeated it over the ages. Between late August and early November, the exhibition "Forme nel Verde" showcases contemporary sculptures in the Horti Leonini, creating a captivating dialogue between art and nature. In summer, concerts, theater, and performances enliven the squares through the “Sanquiricoestate” festival, while in December, the Festa dell’Olio celebrates the local “green gold” with tastings and markets.

In the surrounding area, just 4 km away, the hamlet of Bagno Vignoni surprises visitors with its monumental thermal bath in the center of the square. The steam rising from the warm water creates a magical and timeless atmosphere. A little further, Pienza enchants with its Renaissance geometries and the scents of pecorino cheese, while Montalcino invites exploration of the wineries and vineyards that produce the famous Brunello. The most iconic views of the Val d'Orcia, such as the Chapel of Vitaleta or the renowned cypress-lined avenue, are easily accessible for excursions.

All around, gentle hills dotted with farmhouses, cultivated fields, and rows of cypress trees paint a landscape that seems to be a work of art in every season. Here, time appears to flow more slowly, offering an experience that nourishes the eyes, mind, and heart.
