Nestled in the lush hills of Sabina, at an elevation of 420 meters and overlooking the enchanting valley of the Farfa River, Agriturismo Sant'Ilario sul Farfa offers its guests a tranquil and authentic natural setting, situated less than an hour from Rome and just a few kilometers from Rieti. Established in 1995 within a certified organic farm spanning approximately eight hectares, it is the perfect destination for those looking to slow down their daily pace and rediscover balance among nature, wellness, and tradition.

Accommodation is provided in two traditional Sabine farmhouses, fully renovated to honor local architecture. The lodgings include six independent rooms and three comfortable apartments furnished with late 19th-century antiques, each equipped with private bathrooms, heating, and refrigerators. The Mimosa apartment features a kitchen, while Robinia and Ciclamino offer kitchenette facilities. Upon request, cribs or toddler beds can be added, making it suitable for families.

The property is surrounded by olive groves and spacious green areas designed for relaxation and outdoor living. Guests can enjoy a swimming pool with a salt filtration system free of chlorine, volleyball and five-a-side football courts, a ping-pong table, outdoor fitness zones, and scenic trails perfect for hiking and refreshing walks. Nearby, there is a pond for sport fishing and an equestrian center for horseback riding and lessons. Numerous quiet spots among century-old trees invite meditation, reading, or simply enjoying the peace of the countryside.

At the heart of the experience is the organic farm, primarily olive-growing, featuring about eight hundred local variety trees, an orchard, seasonal vegetable gardens, and small free-range livestock. The farm's products take center stage in the cuisine offered in the panoramic dining room or in outdoor spaces during the warmer months. Traditional Sabine dishes are prepared using zero-kilometer ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, vegetables, fruits, eggs, homemade preserves, and desserts, complemented by local wines. The kitchen emphasizes authentic flavors and also caters to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free guests. Cooking classes, tastings of oils and wines, and opportunities to explore local culinary traditions are organized.

The agriturismo also hosts cultural events, musical evenings featuring classical, lyrical, and jazz repertoires, thematic gatherings, yoga retreats, and professional seminars, making it suitable for ceremonies, receptions, and team-building activities. The facilities are accessible and equipped to accommodate individuals with disabilities.

Special attention is given to guests traveling with pets: a large fenced area allows dogs to move freely in safety and is also ideal for canine activities and agility courses, with a small fee based on the length of stay.

This strategic location enables easy exploration of some of the most captivating destinations in Sabina and the Santa Reatina Valley, including abbeys, medieval villages, castles, and nature trails of significant historical and spiritual value. With convenient train connections to Rome, the property is an excellent choice for both relaxing stays immersed in nature and as a starting point for discovering authentic Lazio.
Rooms and Rates
The day begins with an Italian buffet breakfast made with genuine products from the farm and the local area. Guests can enjoy homemade cakes and pastries, artisanal jams, seasonal fruits, fresh bread, eggs, and other specialties prepared with zero-kilometer ingredients, accompanied by hot beverages and juices. Breakfast can be savored in the bright dining room overlooking the garden or outdoors during the pleasant season, allowing guests to leisurely appreciate the scents and colors of the Sabine countryside.
The restaurant at the agriturismo offers cuisine rooted in Sabine tradition, using organic ingredients and locally sourced products from the farm itself. In the panoramic dining room overlooking the Farfa River valley and the garden, guests can enjoy simple and authentic dishes prepared with their own extra virgin olive oil, seasonal vegetables and fruits, eggs, artisanal preserves, fresh pasta, and homemade desserts, accompanied by selected Sabine and regional wines.

On sunny days, it is possible to have lunch or dinner outdoors, surrounded by the beautiful natural landscape. The kitchen highlights the genuine flavors of the countryside and offers, upon request, dedicated menus for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free guests. During certain times of the year, cooking classes featuring local specialties and tasting events are organized, allowing guests to closely experience the gastronomic traditions of the area.

Agriturismo Sant'Ilario sul Farfa

Area Collina

The agriturismo is situated in the heart of Sabina, one of the most authentic and well-preserved areas of Lazio, characterized by gentle hills adorned with olive groves, forests, and small medieval villages that have remained unchanged over time. Its panoramic location overlooking the Farfa River valley provides captivating landscapes in every season, perfect for those seeking a stay immersed in nature, away from mass tourism yet just a short distance from major cultural centers.

The surrounding area invites leisurely explorations along natural trails, trekking paths, and cycling routes that weave through tranquil countryside, historic abbeys, and ancient rural estates. Just a few minutes away is the Abbey of Farfa, one of the most significant monastic complexes in Europe, serving as a spiritual and cultural hub of the valley, surrounded by a village rich in artisan shops and timeless charm.

Nearby, you can find enchanting castles and fortified villages such as Rocca Sinibalda, Nerola, and Collalto Sabino, which are testimonies to the region's medieval history. The nearby Valle Santa Reatina, associated with the presence of Saint Francis, is home to sanctuaries set in lush greenery and places of deep spirituality, ideal for cultural excursions and moments of reflection.

The area is also renowned for its olive oil and culinary traditions: historic oil mills, local wineries, and farms allow visitors to discover authentic flavors through tastings of extra virgin olive oil, wines, and typical products. The agricultural landscapes, still cultivated using traditional methods, contribute to creating a harmonious and genuine environment.

Despite its rural and relaxed atmosphere, Rome is easily accessible in under an hour by car or via train connections, making this location an ideal starting point for day trips to the capital as well as for exploring the inner Lazio region, rich in nature, art, spirituality, and local traditions.
