Le Spine is a charming and unique bed & breakfast that originally served as a stopping point for pilgrims on the Via Francigena and cyclists traveling the Fornovo-Cassio route. It is also perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a few days immersed in nature, culture, and gastronomy. The establishment, a result of careful restoration, maintains the authenticity of a rural home with three simple yet well-appointed rooms, each equipped with a private bathroom and offering panoramic views of either the Val Baganza or Val Grontone. The use of natural materials, warm wood, and simple details creates an intimate and genuine atmosphere.

In the morning, breakfast is served on the terrace or by the fireplace, featuring both sweet and savory options: homemade cakes, yogurt, jams, toasted bread, cookies, fresh fruit, and hot beverages, with gluten-free and vegan alternatives available upon request. Guests can also enjoy local eggs, cheeses, and cold cuts if desired. During their stay, visitors can unwind by selecting a book or a board game from the small home library.

Adjacent to the B&B is the pub, the heart of the project: not just a simple bar, but a gathering place to savor selected craft beers along with sandwiches or cold dishes made from locally sourced ingredients chosen directly by the owners. Cultural events such as “Sorsi di Scienza” are also organized here, which combine socializing with curiosity, storytelling, and flavors.

The location, situated along the Via Francigena and just minutes away from trails and attractions like the Salti del Diavolo, the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park, and the village of Berceto, allows for experiences that blend nature and history. Pontremoli and Lunigiana further enhance the opportunities for day trips.

Mica and Giulio left Milan to embark on this adventure, and today they warmly welcome guests with simplicity and dedication, sharing not just a roof over their heads but also their passions that inspire their lifestyle choices: quality beer, authentic products, and a love for the Apennines.
Rooms and Rates
Breakfast at Le Spine is designed to kick off the day with flavor and authenticity. It is served on the terrace during sunny days or in front of the fireplace during the cooler months, creating a cozy and relaxed atmosphere.

Guests can enjoy a buffet filled with homemade cakes, muffins, and cookies, fresh yogurt, jams made from garden fruits, and toasted bread, all accompanied by seasonal fruits and muesli. For beverages, there's coffee, tea, cappuccino, milk, and fruit juices.

Gluten-free options and vegan selections are always available, while those looking for a heartier breakfast can request eggs, local cured meats, and cheeses. The focus on local products and the variety of offerings make each morning a delightful and genuine experience.
Le Spine doesn't have a traditional restaurant, but the pub attached to the B&B serves as a popular spot for those who enjoy exploring new flavors in a friendly atmosphere. Instead of elaborate dishes, you'll find simple and genuine offerings made with agricultural products sourced from local farms that the owners know personally.

The menu features sandwiches and cold dishes that highlight the region's best, from fresh bread and cheeses to typical cured meats. All of this is designed to perfectly complement the pub's star attraction: craft beer, carefully selected to provide new surprises with every sip.

This space is more than just a dining venue; it is a gathering place where good food creates opportunities to share experiences and passions, particularly during themed evenings or cultural events held in the beautiful season.

Hey, I'm Michaela

Mica and Giulio are the managers of Le Spine, a couple who made the decision to leave the city and embrace life in the Apennines. After purchasing and renovating a house that had been abandoned for decades, they transformed it into a welcoming space that reflects their simple and authentic lifestyle. Giulio has personally crafted many of the furnishings for the rooms and has taken care of the maintenance of the property, while Mica handles the cleaning and details, being mindful of using eco-friendly products. Together, they prepare wholesome breakfasts each morning, featuring cakes, yogurt, and jams made in-house, and they are present behind the pub counter to greet guests with a selected craft beer. Their hospitality stems from a desire to share the passions that led them to this change: a respect for nature, an appreciation for local products, and a wish to provide a warm and genuine environment for those who choose to stop along their journey.

Area Collina

The area surrounding Le Spine is a picturesque stretch of the Parmense Apennines, where nature, history, and culture converge. The establishment is located in Cavazzola di Berceto, along the Via Francigena, one of the oldest and most traveled routes in Europe. This path traverses diverse landscapes and offers the chance to immerse oneself in a slow and authentic travel experience. For pilgrims and cyclists, it serves as a strategic stop, while for those staying a bit longer, it becomes an ideal starting point for exploring the surroundings.

Just a few kilometers away are the Salti del Diavolo, stunning rock formations that tell the story of the millennia-old geology of the area, and the Sentiero degli Scalpellini, which leads through ancient quarries and streams, allowing visitors to relive the atmosphere associated with the work of stone masters. Nearby lies the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park, a UNESCO MAB reserve, where the meeting of different climates has created a rich biodiversity. Its trails cater to all levels of hikers, offering everything from leisurely walks to more challenging treks.

The village of Berceto, known as a "small stone jewel," boasts a historic center characterized by Romanesque churches, narrow alleys, and stone houses that reflect the charm of mountain architecture. Further south lies Pontremoli, the gateway to Lunigiana, with its medieval bridges, cobblestone streets, and historic buildings that evoke a sense of times gone by.

In addition to natural and cultural itineraries, the area also offers valuable gastronomic experiences: the cured meats, cheeses, and traditional dishes of the Parmense Apennines provide a culinary journey that complements the exploration of the landscape. This region invites visitors to slow down, breathe deeply, and discover the richness of a territory that has preserved its authenticity.
