Nestled among the hills of Itri, on the border between the Regional Park of the Aurunci Mountains and the Riviera of Ulisse, you will find Agriturismo La Torre Rossa: a place where time seems to slow down, offering guests an authentic experience of living in harmony with nature, history, and local traditions. At the heart of the establishment stands a tower dating back to the 13th-14th centuries, meticulously restored to preserve its heritage. Once home to a winery and olive oil mill, it still retains historical traces such as medieval frescoes and maritime graffiti linked to the ancient port of Gaeta.

The family-run agriturismo is managed by Ernesto, Mauro, Fiorella, and Rodrigo, creating a warm and genuine atmosphere for visitors. While Fiorella and Rodrigo tend to the vegetable gardens, orchards, and olive groves using organic methods and natural fertilizers provided by their donkeys Ramona, Dora, and Paloma, Mauro and Ernesto passionately welcome guests and manage the dining experience. The entire venture originated from Mauro's decision to leave Rome in search of a more authentic and grounded life.

The suites, measuring 20 square meters, provide cozy and well-appointed spaces, featuring three rooms with a double bed, private bathroom, and terrace. Antique furnishings and natural material finishes create an elegantly rustic charm that harmonizes perfectly with the original architectural context. The outdoor areas include the “stazzo,” a rural gathering space with a hearth, covered tables, and a spacious outdoor area where cultural events and social gatherings take place under the stars.

The cuisine highlights local flavors, with dishes that blend the culinary traditions of the Gulf, influenced by both Roman and Neapolitan styles. Most ingredients are sourced from the farm or from local small-scale producers who share the same commitment to environmental care and quality: from the chickpeas of Campodimele to the lentils of Ventotene, from the fresh catch of the Gulf to artisanal cheeses, and including indigenous wines like Cecubo and Formianum. At the stazzo, the barbecue and open-fire cooking evoke the conviviality of the past, with rustic and flavorful dishes served in a warm and festive atmosphere.

Agriturismo La Torre Rossa serves as an ideal starting point for exploring a region rich in natural beauty and historical landmarks: from Tiberius's villa in Sperlonga to the archaeological site of Minturnae, from the medieval towns of Gaeta and Fondi to various trekking paths and outdoor sports activities. A stay at La Torre Rossa immerses you in the slow rhythms of nature, the stories of the past, and the aromas of authentic cuisine.
Rooms and Rates
The restaurant at Agriturismo La Torre Rossa features a cuisine inspired by local traditions, offering dishes that blend the flavors of the Aurunci region with influences from Roman and Neapolitan cooking. Most of the ingredients are sourced from the farm itself and from local producers who engage in organic and integrated farming practices. The menus are seasonal and highlight typical products such as the cicerchie from Campodimele, lentils from Ventotene, fresh catches from the Gulf of Gaeta, and extra virgin olive oil from the "itrana" cultivar.

In addition to the main restaurant, the kitchen at the stazzo provides an even more authentic experience, with preparations cooked over charcoal, open flame, or ash, honoring traditional farming methods. This all takes place in a friendly atmosphere, often enlivened by events and dinners under the stars.

Area Collina

The area where Agriturismo La Torre Rossa is located is a captivating part of southern Lazio, nestled between the greenery of the Aurunci Mountains and the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The territory of Itri, with its hills abundant in olive groves and Mediterranean scrub, harbors an ancient spirit that reveals itself in the slow rhythms of the countryside, the robust flavors of traditional farming, and the numerous nods to history.

Just a few kilometers away, one can find charming villages like Sperlonga, known for its white houses overlooking the sea and the Roman villa of Emperor Tiberius, and Gaeta, a city rich in medieval heritage, featuring its historic center perched on a hill, cobblestone alleys, and a promontory offering spectacular views of the gulf. Formia and Fondi also warrant a visit, with their markets, Roman ruins, and architectures that narrate centuries of trade and domination.

The proximity to the Aurunci Mountains Regional Park makes the area ideal for hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding among forests of holm oaks and cork oaks, natural springs, and breathtaking vistas extending to the sea. Along the coast, one can engage in water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking, or simply enjoy days at the beach among sandy coves and crystal-clear waters.

The region is also rich in archaeological evidence: in addition to Tiberius's villa, the site of Minturnae preserves a section of the ancient Appian Way, a Roman theater, and a well-preserved forum. In Terracina, dominated by the temple of Jupiter Anxur, one can feel the grandeur of the ancient world, while the small Pontine islands, such as Ventotene and Ponza, are easily accessible for day trips.

This land, celebrated by Horace and Pliny for its wines and landscapes, continues to offer a unique blend of nature, history, and culture, where every corner tells a story and every flavor evokes a memory.
